Chapter 377 - Friends, Love
He shouted that as he knew that they were clearly looking at him, and analyzing what he was doing.
"Wait, what's that?" Aiden muttered as he spotted something that was shining brightly on the ground.
It had been hidden between all the boxes, and it seemed to be quite the fancy item. Aiden was honestly very interested in its uses as he immediately picked it up and started analyzing it.
[Random Portal]
'A random portal? What is this shit reward?' Aiden thought, not understanding what it could do.
Still, he didn't lose too much hope as he had only read the name of the item. However, it didn't give much confidence in Aiden.
'There's no rank attached to it either…'
The more he looked at the small shiny item, the more he realized that it wasn't going to be good.
[Description: By activating this item, you will be teleported somewhere random in Nova.]
[Number of uses: One-time use]
*BEEP*
[We suggest you use this when coming back to Nova, maybe something interesting will happen.]
'We? Is this the Lumithars talking?' Aiden thought, realizing that it was slowly but surely starting to make sense.
"What's going to happen when I activate it?"
He had no idea what would happen when he would be activating it, and he was honestly hoping that the system would be helping him, learn about it.
However, when he asked that question there was no answer from the system, it was pure silence. Aiden would need to figure it out at one point.
"Then, is that it? You're giving me that random item and nothing else?"
Aiden didn't understand how this small thing here was worth all the danger that he had gone through during this trial. Hell, there was a good chance that he would have died.
Sure, he had gotten twenty levels worth of experience and some boxes that could contain items, but that was it. He hadn't received anything related to skills.
He patiently waited for the system, and it finally did when it noticed that Aiden had stopped moving for a couple of minutes.
*BEEP*
[Yes, that's it. Smile and be happy with what you have.]
Aiden understood the meaning of that sentence as it was kind of threatening him. He knew that if he didn't shut his mouth, then the system would be able to remove all the rewards that he had gained. At least, that's what Aiden thought at the moment.
"Fine, hmpf!"
Aiden was clearly unhappy, but he would make sure to use that teleporter when getting back. Well, after taking care of some things first. He wanted to see Emma, and everyone that he had missed in this past month.
"Ah, whatever! Let's open those items boxes, shall we?" Aiden muttered with excitement as he walked over toward the purple boxes he wanted to keep the orange for last, as he knew that it was the one that would hold the greatest item that he had yet.
Aiden took one of the purple boxes in his hands and opened it without any hesitation.
There was a little sound effect as he opened them.
*Swoosh*
He took a deeper look at the item, and his shoulders went down instantly. The item that he had just received was pure garbage, it wasn't anything worth noting.
It was a yellowish cloak, that would be spottable from literally everywhere. Aiden took a quick look at its stats and grade, and he was sure that there was no hope in that object whatsoever.
"It doesn't even give stats, and the description is also complete trash: It can make you very visible to all your enemies. How is this item a purple one?" Aiden shouted in anger.
He knew that purple items were usually really good. But, this time, it seemed that it wasn't the case for an unknown reason.
Aiden dismissed the item, still keeping it for his future shop inside the Underground Otherworld Shop (UOS).
"Whatever, let's see what those other items are?"
He hoped that they would at least be worth keeping. However, the same trend kept repeating, as he got what seemed to be a red nose that could be used in a costume. Then, he got huge shoes that didn't fit him, and in the end, he got a rainbow-colored wig.
Aiden looked at all those items and was cursing as loudly as he could.
"ALL OF THOSE WERE FUCKING PURPLE RANKED? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?"
His anger was normal, those were four rare boxes, and he took a closer look at them. It seemed that the Lumithars had made him a little joke.
"I-IS THIS A FUCKING CLOWN COSTUME?"
He simply couldn't believe it as he looked at the orange box that was right beside the purple-ranked items.
"This better not be another fucking joke, I wouldn't find it funny at all."
He was supposed to be getting stronger, and here he was, having the system make jokes with his items.
"I risked my life for that stupid deal, so you better make sure that it's a good item, you motherfuckers!"
Aiden took the orange box in his hand and deeply hoped that it wouldn't be something related to that clown costume that he had just received.
If it was, then Aiden wouldn't know what he would do. He would explode… He was already on the cusp of doing so, but it would be even worse this time.
"Please… Please tell me that it's going to be a good one."
*Swoosh*
Aiden looked up and opened the box. He didn't want to look… he didn't want to be disappointed by what he would be finding inside it.
A few seconds passed by, and Aiden still didn't have the balls to look down.
"Ah. Fuck it! Let's see."
Aiden finally opened his eyes as he slowly looked down toward the item that just appeared in his hands.
"W-What is this?"
It was very small, he was barely able to see it. He tried to get a closer look by bringing his face close to it, but there was no change. It couldn't tell what the item in his hands was.
He hoped that it wasn't another item that he would have to throw into the garbage. However, he wasn't sure yet, the item seemed somewhat promising, it was an orange graded, after all.
It had to be somewhat good. At least, that's what Aiden thought, even if he had never experienced the opening of such a book. That's what he desired.
Aiden took a closer look as system messages appeared in front of him once again.
[System Upgrade]
Aiden's eyes widened when he saw that word.
"Wait… no, there's no way. This got to be a mistake… It has to be."
Aiden could barely make sense of what was happening at the moment. He was going to be able to upgrade the system?
Was such a thing even possible in the first place?
Aiden had no idea, if it was, but from Aiden's point of view. He had no idea what this item was going to do, the system already seemed pretty much perfect, and he couldn't see what upgrade it needed.
"Let's read the description."
His eyes lowered as he continued reading the information that was popping up in front of him.
[Description: An upgrade to Aiden Nightshade's System.]
"Yeah, this is just way too vague."
Aiden was a little annoyed by it, but he knew that he would be able to see the effect of that item if he could even call it that.
He would just have to use it, and he would be able to see the effects. And that's exactly what he tried to do, however, it seemed that the system didn't agree.
*BEEP*
[To use the System Upgrade, you need to reach the level 50.]
Aiden read this and opened his system right away. He wanted to see how many levels he was missing from using that item, and he was very close.
"Couldn't I just be just five levels higher?"
Aiden was annoyed as he knew that the only way to gain experience would be to either return to one of the worlds that he had gone into or go into his fifth trial.
He had to admit, that it was extremely frustrating.
"Why can't I use it right now, it's one of my rewards!" Aiden shouted, getting annoyed by it.
He was supposed to be getting a lot stronger when he came out of this trial, but it seemed that it wouldn't even be the case anymore since the system had made a joke, and made a fool out of him.
'Giving me a clown costume, just what they thinking?'
Aiden simply couldn't believe what had just happened and he was getting very frustrated with it, there was no doubt about that part.
*BEEP*
[Just level up to level 50, and use it. It's simple and worth it.]
Aiden cursed them in his mind, as he dismissed that message right away. He knew that there must be a reason. But he simply couldn't bother learning about it.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
"Can't you give me the experience, I wanted to take a break from the trials…"
However, as soon as those words came out of his mouth. He realized that it was a big mistake and that he should have never said such a thing like ever.
[A break from the trials?]
For the first time, there was actual emotion behind the voice of the system, and it was clear that someone had taken over it and was currently talking to him.
[Do you honestly think you have the right to do that?]
[We can force you to take them, and you will have no choice but to comply.]
