Chapter 2398: Escape



Triala cut her communication off.

Sam had a deep frown as he turned to Naila.

"What is the immediate crisis she is talking about?"

"That..." Even before Naila could explain herself. Something happened.

*RUMBLE*

The earth shook. Sam's senses are at their sharpest as he observed everything within the vicinity.

"Fuck"

He cursed under his breath as he felt disaster that is about to befall on the city.

*BOOM*

With a loud explosion, Sam felt the ground under his feet collapse a bit and the whole building seemed to have become inclined. All the cultivators inside the building acted fast and rushed out of the windows, flying in the air.

They immediately went after the mortal plane and Astral plane cultivators to help them.

Sam and Naila also came out and they saw the spot with real damage. A few meters away from the spot there are in, the ground caved completely. The buildings and other structures just disappeared into the large hole along with its residents.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

Sam expanded his senses into the whole and noticed that many people are rushing towards it. "DON'T HEAD IN THERE"

Sam yelled at the top of his lungs and rushed towards the hole. The divine plane cultivators reacted to his words. Maybe because they also saw what he did and they immediately made a wall to block the other Astral plane cultivators that are about to head in.

By the time Sam reached the place a large creature sprung out of the hole, like a gigantic tower. It is an earth worm like creature. But a bit different. Unlike other beasts that shared a similar nature, this creature didn't appear like it is made of flesh and blood.

Instead, its presence itself felt like a half alive and half dead creature. No... dead wouldn't be a proper word to describe it. Almost like an inanimate object. Like a golem or a puppet.

And many parts of its body seemed to have made of rocky scales. They are reminiscent of the scales of an earth dragon. Only, they don't have same sheen and strength as it did.

As the creature came up and tried rush into rest of the city, Sam conjured a spear of lightning and shot it.

*BOOM*

The lightning pierced through its skin and tore into two. The worm fell back into the hole. Sam frowned and looked at Naila who came.

"Take care of your people. Tell them all to gather at the main building. I will be back in a few minutes."

He didn't even wait for a reply and charged into the hole alone.

When the others are hesitating if they should jump in or not, Sam's scream was heard.

"Don't get in my way. Do a count of how many people are still there and stay put. Stay afloat is you can."

"Do as he says." Everyone moved as Naila also ordered them to follow Sam's words.

Sam meanwhile let himself fall freely into the hole and he was surprised how deep it went. That is not the only surprise though. The inside of the hole looked like a large beehive. It is filled with other horizontal compartments, extending to god knows where.

But all these compartments are filled with smaller sized worms of the same kind that he killed. They are trying to crawl up.

But the damage Sam did made the giant worm crash on to those crawling ones and pushed them back.

Still, this will only hinder them for a moment. Soon, they will be climbing up once again. Judging by the number and the energy they are emitting, there is no way the settlement would survive. At least not without any severe losses.

Sam fell over for more than a thousand meters before he saw the solid ground. Judging by how hollow the ground it, the city will soon collapse. And based on the aura coming from these creatures, Sam is sure that this is the work of the Land abomination.

He seemed to have figured out the settlement's location.

But instead of directly attacking, he found a way around the defenses to sneak up on them like this. But if that is the case. How did, Triala know of this?

Sam had a ton of questions, but he cannot get the answers immediately. He has to first deal with these things.

*SWOOSH*

He changed into light fusion form and lasers shot off of his body in all the directions. The worms are being decimated with every passing second as they took the onslaught of the lasers. Within no time, Sam shot off into the air appeared in the city again.

With a wave of his hand, Dia appeared.

"Hold the ground. Those lackeys or the abomination might try to collapse the city. Try to hold it as much as possible. I will take them away."

Dia immediately got to work. Meanwhile Sam shot towards the central building. There all the remaining people gathered and he is stunned by how small the number of people is.

"There are only three hundred people here, where are the rest?" Sam asked as soon as he landed.

"The building that collapsed is the dining hall and it is time for lunch." Naila said and Sam took in a cold breath.

This raised a few speculations and gave him a few answers. But he doesn't have time to care for them.

"We need to leave this place. All the ground beneath the city is hollow. The abomination's lackeys can easily collapse it any moment. My beast is holding it up for now. Let's leave

immediately.

All the cultivators of 1 star and above, use your full speed and fly everyone over. As many as you can at a time."

As Sam said, he waved his hand. His other beasts came out. Yanwu, Ape, Raiju, Forrest Bear all came out. Even Void hopper helped by blinking them away.

The shadow mice also came out, but they had a different task. Everyone is evacuated very quickly. They all left the city first and they started walking towards the shore.

Dia also followed Sam. He tasked her to sense the state of the ground in their path.

And the closer they are to the beach, the more undamaged the soil and ground are.

After they settled down there, Sam turned to Naila.

"You have some answering to do."

Naila nodded and walked with him to the side. Then she explained.

"We did identify some weird movements in the ground a while back. But to not alert the citizens, we didn't make it public.

However, we didn't know that the damage is to this extent. All he knew was that there are traces of land abomination lackeys trying to pry their way into our barrier of death energy and

some of them succeeded.

We didn't know the progress is this much."

"Then how did Triala know that it is an immediate crisis?"

"I obviously reported it to the leaders of other settlements."

"I would like to believe that the collapse of the city happening right during the lunch time is a pure coincidence. However, from my experience, coincidences are way too rare. So, I have to suspect that there is a traitor in your midst."

"What?" Naila was stunned.

"There is a good chance. But that is what not worries me the most. For there to be a traitor on your side, there should be someone on the other side that made a deal with them. Which means, they communicated with someone smart on the abomination's side. However, none of your information indicates tat there is a smart creature on their side. You only said the abomination has intelligence and all his lackeys run on instinct. So, either the traitor is directly communicating with the abomination, or the info is wrong."

"What should we do now?"

"We need to find you guys a new place. Make that traitor useless, and ensure that the

abomination cannot follow us."

"We cannot go anywhere. There is nothing on this side, but endless sea, and the other side is dominated by the Land abomination. We are stuck here."

"Not really. I don't want to say it is a coincidence, but it is. We have a place that will help you. However, it is a bit far away. Which will make it hard to move you guys there. That place is an island, so Land abomination cannot use the regular means to get there.

I can control the communication from there, so the traitor will be useless.

I think we should use the spatial transfer to send you guys there at the same time."

"But the Sky abomination...."

"Don't worry. I have a method for that. I don't know how he is doing it, but you said, he can

narrow down the location and even intercept the transfer process. I want to see how efficiently he can do it, when has to do it a hundred times simultaneously."
