Chapter 54 Must Take Her Down (Please Follow!)
"Welcome, Professor Yulai."
The living room on the first floor of the villa was very spacious.
The decorations inside were also extremely luxurious.
A middle-aged blond man with a mustache rose from the sofa. He approached Mrs. Yulai, elegantly took her hand, and kissed the back of her fingers.
At this moment, two females, one older and one younger, came over; they were Mrs. Pompey and her daughter, Rebecca.
Rebecca was sitting in a wheelchair, pushed by Mrs. Pompey.
"Mrs. Yulai, good morning."
They greeted Mrs. Yulai with a friendly kiss on the cheek.
"Good morning, esteemed Viscount Pompey, the beautiful Mrs. Pompey, and the lovely Miss Rebecca."
Mrs. Yulai politely responded.
Viscount Pompey turned and glanced at the young man beside her.
"Who might this be?"
"Oh, Viscount, this is Mr. Jack, a good friend of mine..."
Mrs. Yulai began introducing him to Viscount Pompey.
During this time, Rebecca in her wheelchair was secretly sizing up Chen Lun.
"He's really handsome..."
She thought to herself, blinking her moist eyes while her long eyelashes fluttered.
"More handsome than the other young nobles."
After a brief introduction by Mrs. Yulai, Viscount Pompey nodded lightly.
"It's a pleasure to have you visit Pompey Manor, Mr. Jack."
He extended his hand as he spoke.
The voice of Viscount Pompey was very calm, without affectation or any warmth.
"Since you are a friend of Mrs. Yulai, you must join us for breakfast shortly."
"It is my honor, Viscount."
Chen Lun shook his hand, showing a polite smile.
But a hint of gravity flashed in his eyes momentarily. Untraceably, he glanced at a ring on the Viscount's ring finger.
Viscount Pompey nodded, quickly released the handshake, and signaled to the butler, Binose.
"Shall we talk over breakfast then?"
"As the host wishes, Viscount."
Old butler Binose got the hint, and called upon the maids to prepare breakfast.
Some maids went to the kitchen to inform the cook, while others began setting up the dining room. Everything was organized smoothly.
As everyone took their seats, and before the dishes were served, Mrs. Pompey spoke up:
"Mrs. Yulai, Rebecca's education for the next few months will be entrusted to you."
"I haven't yet had the chance to explain, Mrs. Pompey."
Mrs. Yulai had already taken off her wide-brimmed hat, handing it to a maid. She adjusted her coiffed hair, and her expression was apologetic.
"Please forgive me, my body hasn't been feeling well lately, I'm afraid I might not be up to the task."
Mrs. Pompey and the Viscount looked at each other, a trace of confusion visible on their faces.
If that were really the case, Mrs. Yulai wouldn't have accepted the invitation.
Viscount Pompey frowned slightly.
As far as he knew, Mrs. Yulai was in good health. The current excuse clearly seemed contrived.
"For this reason, I have found Mr. Jack. He is not only a good friend but also a scholar I admire...
Mr. Jack has only recently arrived in Amber City, but his capabilities are beyond doubt."
Mrs. Yulai said, smiling.
"He happens to excel in literature, history, and nature, making him an excellent choice for Miss Rebecca's tutor."
Upon hearing her words, Rebecca's eyes lit up.
But both Viscount Pompey and his wife's expressions darkened simultaneously.
The Viscount eyed the young man beside the dining table and said bluntly:
"I have met many young people who are eloquent and can talk about anything, yet are idiots when it comes to taking action."
His words were hardly diplomatic, and both Lady Ulyf and Chen Lun sensed the distrust in them.
"I don't think this is appropriate, Lady Ulyf."
Lady Pompey did not distrust Chen Lun's talents; rather, she was concerned that he was a young man.
If he were to become Rebecca's private tutor, it might endanger her daughter's reputation. Moreover, his handsome appearance was a dangerous signal for Rebecca.
Facing the resistance from Viscount Pompey and his wife, Chen Lun's expression remained unchanged, still smiling.
He glanced at the diamond-encrusted gold ring on Viscount Pompey's hand.
"That ring... it's a Mysterious Object classed as a spiritual protector, now this is troublesome."
Unable to use "Mermaid's Song" for hypnosis, convincing Viscount Pompey solely based on eloquence would be very difficult.
While he was quietly pondering his strategy, Rebecca suddenly spoke:
"Let's give this gentleman a chance, mom and dad."
Seated gracefully, she coquettishly tugged at Lady Pompey's arm.
"I really long to learn, staying at home is so boring."
"But, Rebecca..."
Lady Pompey showed a hint of difficulty.
But as she looked at her daughter's lovely face and pitiable expression, she finally relented.
"Alright... let's give this gentleman a chance."
She looked at her husband, who grimaced in response.
Just then, the maid came in with breakfast, and the butler, Binose, lifted the lids.
Viscount Pompey tucked a napkin into his collar, grabbed a knife and fork, and prepared to dig into a steak.
"Since that's the case, after breakfast, Mr. Jack will give Rebecca her first lesson."
He spoke in a rather unenthusiastic tone.
He had already decided that after today, there was no need for this man to come back.
Nobility still required maintaining certain decencies; he couldn't just disrespect Lady Ulyf outright.
The Viscount's family breakfast was lavish and the meal luxurious, everyone ate happily.
After the breakfast ended, Lady Ulyf took her leave.
Possibly for the peace of mind not leaving her daughter alone with a stranger, Chen Lun was arranged to teach Rebecca in the garden.
Under a large parasol on the lawn, there were white carved wooden tables and chairs set up.
Chen Lun sat opposite Rebecca, holding a "Tresor Literature Anthology" and taught straight from the text.
His gaze moved beyond the book, observing Viscount Pompey and his wife walking in the garden. Their eyes occasionally swept over, wary of any improper behavior on his part. Read exclusive adventures at empire
"Mr. Jack, where are you from?"
Rebecca clearly wasn't listening, instead, she asked with curiosity on her face.
Butler Binose, with his hands clasped behind his back, stood not far away, fulfilling his "supervisory" duty.
"Ah, my hometown is in the distant Rock State Bronze City, Peacock City...
Miss Rebecca, please focus on the lesson, otherwise, I might not be able to come here to teach you tomorrow."
Chen Lun flashed a smile, causing Rebecca's eyes to widen immediately.
Sunlight poured down, shining on the face of the young man with black hair, making it gleam.
Her face involuntarily flushed.
"No, I'll tell my father that you teach very well..."
Old butler Binose couldn't help but roll his eyes.
Was he being ignored?
He grew increasingly disdainful of Chen Lun; just reciting from the textbook verbatim, this level counts as a scholar?
Any moderately literate person picked off the street could do better!
"Miss Rebecca, how do you view literature?"
Chen Lun diverted his attention away from Viscount Pompey and his wife and asked Rebecca softly.
He was determined to start from this young girl.
