Devil’s Music

Chapter 397: Song of the Wind (2)

The two girls, having a blast shuffling dance, simply rode the rhythm after switching up their steps.

As they exchanged smiles that seemed to prepare for something, they each took a sip of beer they held in their hands and observed others dancing around them.

Others around them also glanced around, sipping their drinks or flirting with the opposite sex. Geon, unable to take his eyes off the monitor, tilted his head.

“The music… has it changed?”

The music, initially explosive, reduced its BPM, then exploded again after some time, and each time, people danced wildly before pausing and checking their surroundings again. Geon stroked his chin, lost in thought.

“Hmm… even club dances need a structure, huh? So, they dance only in the ‘development’ section of the music, and the people… But why is it made this way?”

Geon did not budge from his spot until four songs had ended.

The two girls dancing on the monitor, naturally attracting attention, had been practicing dance as idols for over five years. Their dance, large in motion and rhythmic, was not choreographed but drew enough attention from the crowd.

As the crowd around the two girls cheered them on, they smiled broadly and danced even more enthusiastically.

However, as with any club, due to men trying to hit on them, the girls were pushed to a corner and had to quickly return to their room, freed by Geon's bodyguards.

Watching this on the monitor, Geon was surprised to see the two girls entering with bright faces.

“Weren’t you scared?”

Jinyeon, her throat dry, gulped down her drink and laughed.

“It’s just how clubs are, haha.”

Yoonjung, seemingly accustomed to this, sat down to cool off her sweat. Geon watched them intently and asked.

“I’m curious, why do you stop and look around while dancing?”

Jinyeon laughed and explained.

“People come to clubs to have fun, right? One of the reasons they come is to make friends of the opposite sex, so it’s kind of a scan.”

“Scan?”

“Yes, scan. Checking where the good-looking people are, where I should dance to stand out and catch their interest, stuff like that.”

“Eh? You girls do that too?”

“No, haha. We are trainee idols, so dating is completely off-limits for us. We just watch. Others do it too.”

Geon asked with a more serious look.

“So… why do others do it? I saw everyone doing it at the same time.”

This time, Yoonjung answered.

“If the music isn’t something you can continuously dance to, it naturally has parts where you take a break, and people scan during those times, all at the same time.”

Geon thought for a moment and then asked again.

“Doesn’t it annoy you when the dance gets interrupted in the middle?”

Yoonjung, having never considered that, paused to think and shrugged.

“What can we do? We’ve never experienced music that you can dance to continuously. Dance music has a structure, a story; there are no songs that just explode continuously.”

Geon’s expression turned serious.

“Hmm… I see.”

Jinyeon suddenly stood up, grabbed Geon’s hand.

“Brother, don’t think too much and dance! We can dance here too, come on!”

As Jinyeon danced to the shuffle music, Yoonjung joined in with laughter, and Geon, caught by the two girls, had to dance and sweat for over an hour.

Despite his lack of dance skills causing him stress, Geon watched the two girls, who seemed to relieve their stress through dancing, and eventually sat on the sofa, taking a sip of beer.

“There’s a structure and story to dance music, so you need to stop dancing in between… I see.”

Mumbling quietly, Geon sank into thought, but the two girls, as if they couldn’t stand seeing him like that, grabbed his hand again and started dancing energetically.

After sweating and syncing up with the two girls, Geon managed to get away from them only after 1 AM.

The next day, at 9 AM, Yoonjung and Jinyeon came to the office and collapsed on the table, exhausted from their English lessons all morning.

As the teacher left saying they would meet again in an hour for lunch, Jinyeon, lying down, scribbled on her notebook with a pen and said.

“Wow… I’d rather practice dancing for ten hours. It’d be less tiring.”

Yoonjung, her neck stiff, continuously massaged her nape and nodded.

“Exactly. What do you want to eat for lunch?”

Jinyeon lifted her head and suggested.

“Should we go and eat with Brother Kay?”

“Sounds good! Let’s go!”

Energized suddenly, they dashed and pressed

the elevator button for Kay’s floor. When they reached the 4th floor and stepped out, despite the soundproofing, they paused at the sound of music coming through. Yoonjung listened for a moment and said.

“Is this… shuffle?”

Jinyeon also listened intently and nodded.

“Yeah, it has that uptown funk vibe, doesn’t it?”

“Yeah, it does. But it’s a song I’ve never heard before. Whose music is it? It’s good.”

“Let’s go in and ask.”

As they opened the automatic door to Kay’s floor, they saw Geon’s back, engrossed in his work, not even realizing they had entered.

Geon, not taking his eyes off the monitor, was tuning and tweaking the sound, listening to the music every two bars.

“Eh? I guess this is a song Brother Kay is working on.”

“Really? Wow, it’s really good! It’s super addictive.”

As the two dance-loving girls started moving to the rhythm of Geon’s music, they danced energetically to the shuffle rhythm. When the music stopped without a single pause, they screamed in excitement.

“Kyaaah!! We danced without stopping once! This is the first time for such music!”

Hearing the girls’ shouts in the sudden silence, Geon turned his head.

“Oh? Is it time for class to end already?”

Yoonjung ran up and grabbed one of Geon’s arms.

“No, brother! We came to have lunch with you, but what song is this?”

Jinyeon also rushed over and grabbed Geon’s other arm.

“That’s right! What song is this? It’s so good, brother! Is this the Song of the Wind?”

Caught by both arms, Geon stood up, sweating, and shook his head.

“No, it’s not. It’s just some rough work I’ve been trying out, testing to see if I can make something proper.”

Yoonjung blinked her big eyes and asked.

“Testing?”

“Yes, testing. I’m going to the club tonight, do you want to come?”

“Kyaaah!! Really? Really, really? That’s awesome!”

“Hahaha, it seems our brother is becoming a club fanatic! Let’s go, let’s go!”

“Haha, okay. Let’s eat lunch first.”

“Brother, brother. I want Korean food!!”

“Right! Something like kimchi stew!”

“Haha, okay. Let’s go.”

After enjoying a rare Korean meal with the two girls at a nearby Korean restaurant, Geon watched them studying again with a smile and then returned to his work.

As night fell and it was past 8 PM, the two girls, with dark circles under their eyes, headed to the club they visited the previous day.

Entering the VIP room, Geon watched the two girls dancing happily in the hall and smiled. As the door opened and a staff member came in, the staff bowed politely and said.

“It’s ready.”

“Yes, thank you. I’ll go now.”

The two girls, feeling the eyes on them in the hall, danced excitedly. When they glimpsed the DJ changing, their eyes widened. Yoonjung, who saw the DJ first, poked Jinyeon and said.

“Jinyeon, isn’t that Brother Kay?”

“Where? Oh, it really is.”

While most club-goers didn’t care about the DJ change, some who loved music followed famous DJs and enjoyed the clubs.

This place was no different, as some guests standing around the DJ booth, drinking beer, murmured upon seeing Geon, who was covering his face.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

“What, a new DJ?”

“Ah, I liked Richard’s DJing better; is it over already?”

“Let’s listen for a bit and if it’s not good, let’s move somewhere else.”

Geon plugged a USB into the turntable and faded out the music that was playing, starting his new, rough track.

As the energetic shuffle rhythm started, the dancing guests raised their beers and cheered excitedly.

“Kyaaah~~!! Shuffle! That’s what a club should play! EDM is hard to dance to!”

As the people continued to dance excitedly, they slowly turned their heads towards the DJ booth.

Since the music should have had a break by now, they were curious because it allowed them to keep dancing without pause.

Even as they danced, the guests gathered around the DJ booth, intrigued, and started dancing to Geon’s music.

The next song, and the song after, continuously kept the people dancing. Sweating and lost in the music, they forgot about flirting or picking up others and danced non-stop.

The other DJs, who usually incited the crowd by raising their hands or moving their bodies, stood in contrast to Geon, who observed from behind his sunglasses, arms crossed, adding to the fascination with the music itself, which was incredibly lively and relentless.

“U

aaaah!!! This is it, this is it! The music today is killer!”

“What’s the name of that DJ!? I’m gonna follow that guy! Kyaaah!!”

“His face is covered, but just looking at his proportions, he must be super handsome!”

Even the male guests, who usually scattered around chatting with the opposite sex, now clung to the DJ booth dancing, and even the DJs waiting for their next stage came out to listen to Geon’s music.

And among them, Geon, arms crossed and wearing a hat and sunglasses, smiled broadly.

In the club office, a middle-aged Caucasian man, who appeared to be the club owner, watched the monitor and snapped his fingers, prompting a staff member in a black suit to approach. The owner gestured at the monitor and asked.

“So, lending out the DJ booth was in exchange for getting these tracks?”

The staff member nodded and turned to the monitor.

“Mr. Son Lin of Fantagio personally promised. It hasn’t been put in writing yet, but it might be best to have a formal contract.”

“Yes, get it in writing as soon as tomorrow. I was just going to cooperate because of Kay’s name, but this turned out to be an incredible gift. Put the names of Kay and the girls who came with him on the VIP list, and make sure they get free drinks, snacks, and admission from now on.”

“Yes, boss.”

“Go ahead.”

As the staff member left, the owner, alone in the office, intertwined his fingers and couldn’t take his eyes off the monitor.

With a satisfied smile, he took a sip of beer but suddenly widened his eyes.

Hurriedly setting down the beer bottle and wiping the beer from his lips, he murmured as he watched Geon’s figure with his arms crossed on the monitor.

“Wait a minute… this music is just rough work? Then what level is the real music?”
