Chapter 206 Moving Houses
Noah's next destination was his parents' house. Today was the day they would move to the new apartment, a significant upgrade for their living conditions. As Noah drove, he picked up his phone and dialled Jackson.
"Yes, boss," Jackson answered.
"I need a moving team," Noah began, his tone calm but firm. "We're relocating furniture and house essentials to a new place. I'll send you the addresses right after this call. Make sure the team is efficient."
"Understood," Jackson replied immediately. "I'll handle it and get the best team available. They'll be there within an hour and a half."
"Good. Keep me updated." Noah ended the call and quickly sent Jackson the details of both locations.
Arriving at his parents' house, Noah parked outside and entered through the front door, which was slightly ajar. Inside, he found David carefully wrapping a vase in a newspaper while Caroline packed dishes into boxes. Emily was darting around the living room, holding a stack of her books.
"Good morning!" Noah greeted with a smile as he walked in, causing Emily to drop her books and run up to him.
"Big brother!" she exclaimed, hugging him. "Are you here to help?"
"Of course," Noah said, ruffling her hair. "Would I leave all the heavy lifting to you?"
David looked up from his task and chuckled. "If you're here to help, you'd better be ready. There's plenty to do."
Noah smirked. "Don't worry, Dad. I've already arranged for a professional moving team to handle most of the work. They'll be here shortly."
Caroline placed a carefully wrapped plate into a box and wiped her hands on a towel. "That's a relief. I was worried about how we'd move the heavier items. Thank you, Noah."
"You are welcome," he replied, grabbing a box and inspecting its contents. "But I'll still help pack. Since you guys have already started."
By the time the moving team pulled up in their trucks, Noah and his family had made significant progress. Boxes were stacked neatly in the living room, ready to be transported. The movers, dressed in uniform, entered and introduced themselves to Noah.
"Mr. Thompson, we're here to assist with the move," one of them said politely.
"Good," Noah replied, his sharp eyes scanning their faces. "Handle everything carefully. These items are valuable."
Although Noah called the items valuable, their value wasn't monetary but quite the opposite. The items they had packed were mainly things they had grown attached to, the plates, the pictures, and the vase.
All of these things were items that accompanied them throughout their life, it was a part of their life essentially.
"Yes, sir!" they responded in unison, quickly getting to work.
As the movers began loading the trucks, Noah supervised them, ensuring everything was handled efficiently. His parents stood to the side watching.
By the time the trucks were loaded, Noah clapped his hands lightly. "Alright, let's head to the apartment."
Turning to his father, he added, "Dad, you drive Mom and Emily in your car. I brought my car, so I'll head there separately."
David nodded. "Alright, son. See you there."
Before anyone could move, Emily protested, crossing her arms with a pout. "No, no! I want to go with Big Brother! I'm always stuck in Dad's car!"
David raised an eyebrow and placed his hand over his heart dramatically. "You don't want to be with your dear old dad? I feel betrayed! Especially since I take you to school every single day."
Emily's face softened as she realized her words. She quickly ran to David, hugging him tightly. "No, Dad, I'll always pick you anytime, any day!" she exclaimed, her voice dripping with affection. But as her arms tightened around her dad, her eyes darted toward Noah with a look of longing.
David chuckled his facade of mock pain crumbling. "Alright, alright. You can go with Noah this time. But you owe me a ride-along story about school tomorrow."
"Yes!" Emily cheered before stopping abruptly, realizing her enthusiasm betrayed her earlier sentiment. She cleared her throat and added more composedly, "I mean, thank you, Dad."
Noah and Caroline couldn't help but chuckle at Emily. Caroline shook her head with a smile. "That girl's getting too smart for her age," she said, a hint of pride in her voice.
Emily skipped over to Noah and latched onto his hand. "Let's go!" she said, her face beaming with excitement.
"Alright, calm down," Noah said with a small laugh, ruffling her hair. "Let's head out."
With everyone settled in their respective cars, they started the journey to the apartment. As Noah drove, Emily stared out of the window in awe, pointing out random things she found interesting.
"Look, Big Brother! That cloud looks like a dragon!" she exclaimed, her excitement filling the car.
Noah glanced briefly and smiled. "You've got quite the imagination, Em. I'll give you that."
Emily turned to him, her expression thoughtful. "Do you think dragons could've existed a long time ago?"
"Maybe," Noah replied, his voice calm but playful. "Some myths have a basis in reality. Who knows? Maybe a long time ago, something like dragons roamed the earth."
Emily's eyes sparkled at the idea. "That would be so cool! If I ever find one, I'll name it Mr. Scales."
Noah chuckled at her enthusiasm. "Mr. Scales, huh? I'll keep an eye out for any dragon eggs in my travels."
Emily laughed, and the rest of the ride was filled with lighthearted chatter until they arrived at the apartment complex.
Emily exclaimed, "Wow, it's even prettier than I remember!"
Noah opened the apartment building's main door and led the team of workers into the spacious apartment. They immediately began transporting the furniture and boxes with efficiency.
Each worker knew exactly what to do, carefully navigating the floors and placing items where they were directed.
The process took no more than fifteen minutes, the workers moving like clockwork.
'They are good,' Noah thought, crossing his arms as he observed. 'Jackson didn't disappoint by picking the right people.'
As the workers finished, Caroline and David stood by the door to thank them personally. Caroline's smile radiated warmth as she handed out bottles of water to the team. "Thank you all for your hard work," she said genuinely. "We couldn't have done this so quickly without you."
The workers tipped their hats in gratitude before leaving the family to settle into their new home.
Once the door closed, Caroline turned on her heel, her gaze sweeping over the packed boxes and scattered items.
"Alright, let's get to work," she said, clapping her hands together.
Without hesitation, she dove straight into unpacking, carefully opening boxes and pulling out dishes, decor, and other household essentials.
David watched her for a moment before sighing and stepping in to help. "Alright, Caroline, where do you want these plates?"
"Over there, in the kitchen cabinet," Caroline replied without looking up, already arranging a row of photo frames on the mantle.
David dutifully carried the plates and stacked them neatly where she pointed. But after about thirty minutes, he started to get tired and bored.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
He slumped against the kitchen counter, rubbing the back of his neck. "Caroline, let's take a break. We've been going non-stop since this morning."
Caroline paused, glancing at him over her shoulder. Her hands were still holding a stack of folded linens. "Oh, it's fine, honey. I've still got some energy left. You rest if you're tired."
David shook his head, walking over to the kettle to boil water. "You're unbelievable," he muttered under his breath with a fond smile. "You've been running circles around me all day. Here, let me make some tea. It'll give us both a boost."
Caroline chuckled, her hands deftly sorting through another box. "You go ahead. Just save me a cup for when I finish this room. I'll join you soon."
David poured water into the teapot, his movements methodical as he brewed a pot of Noah's famous tea. The rich aroma quickly filled the room, and David sighed contentedly as he poured himself a cup.
Taking a sip, he leaned against the counter, watching his wife work. "You know," he started, his voice warm, "you don't have to do everything today. The apartment isn't going anywhere."
Caroline placed the linens in a drawer and turned to face him, her expression softening. "I know, but I just want to get it done. I want this place to feel like home as soon as possible. For all of us."
David shook his head with a smile, holding out the steaming cup of tea. "Alright, Superwoman. At least take a break and drink some tea with me."
Caroline hesitated for a moment before wiping her hands on a towel. She walked over and accepted the cup from him, her lips curving into a smile. "Thank you. You always know how to take care of me."
Meanwhile, Noah was helping Emily unpack her stuff in her cute room.
"Emily, where do you want this?" He said, holding a stuffed doll.
"It's not a 'this' brother, it's Miss Chloe." She said.
"Alright, so where is Miss Chloe going? You haven't answered my question," He smiled softly.
"Just place her anywhere, who cares." She said, shooing him from disturbing her.
Noah's mouth twitched slightly.
