Transmigrating as an Extra Third-Rate Villain

Chapter 296No Escape [3]

Wiping the sweat off his face, Ren stared out at his smartwatch with Ravern and Zeng right beside him.

There was someone else inside the vault...there had to be.

The entrance to the vault that Ren had made had been left completely open during his fight with the two recruiters.

Normally, Ren wouldn't care...but if the wrong person got inside the vault, the entire academy could be destroyed within a matter of seconds.

If a mystic beast got free, not even the principal would be able to stop it fully.

She would need to call at least two other top-rankers to put down the beast, and even with that, there would be massive amounts of destruction.

Peeking his head above the ground, Ren watched as Liam, Kevin, Zach, and the two recruiters entered the vault.

And right beside the entrance was a familiar figure with jet-black hair and blood-red eyes, who was awkwardly glancing around the underground space.

If the owner of the unknown voice had already freed the mystical beast, going into the vault would guarantee your death.

So, Ren wasn't going to enter until he was certain that the beast hadn't yet been freed.

As Ren climbed up from the tunnel before helping both Zeng and Raven, one thing really started to bother him.

Why had the owner of the voice spoken?

If he hadn't spoken, no one in the underground space would have noticed him.

He would have been able to slip right into the vault and do whatever the hell he wanted without anyone knowing in the slightest.

Yet...he had decided to speak, notifying everyone in the room of his presence.

Something was clearly off.

If this voice's owner had wanted to rob the vault, he would have done it silently,

The owner of the unknown voice wasn't after what was in the vault...he was after something else.

Perhaps, the life or lives of people in this room.

But, even with that knowledge, Ren couldn't do anything.

If the beast hadn't yet been freed, he would have to enter the vault and protect it to prevent the mystical beast from killing everyone in the academy, alongside himself.

However, that would mean that Ren would be doing exactly what the owner of the mysterious voice wanted.

Ren couldn't leave the underground space and escape to somewhere far away to save his life.

He couldn't just stand still as the unknown voice would obviously go to the vault and release the mystical beast.

Ren only had one choice...and it was no coincidence.

Clearly, the owner of this voice had forced Ren into this decision...yet Ren had to comply; there was no other choice.

Standing on the dirt with Raven and Zeng, Ren speed-walked towards the obsidian door before climbing it.

With his two partners by his side, Ren ran to the top of the obsidian vault, waving his hands as he approached a familiar figure.

Letting out a "tsk" sound as Ren approached, Ruby pointed at the gap before asking.

"Before anything happens, I need to know what down there is so important."

Surprised that the usual trusting Lily hadn't told her yet, Ren glanced at his two partners behind, making sure they were out of hearing distance, before replying.

"The vault is not a vault...but a wall. A wall defending a button that has the ability to kill over a million people."

"...could you be even less ambiguous if you tried?"

Shrugging his shoulders, Ren smiled and replied.

"You get the gist."

Before Ruby could respond, Raven and Zeng finally arrived, immediately looking at Ruby with confusion.

Pointing at the two boys by Ren's side, Ruby curiously asked.

"So, you're not a lone worker?"

"Did I give off that impression?"

Replying from behind Ren, Raven emotionlessly said.

"Yes."

Alternating glances between the two boys, Ruby peered into their hearts before muttering.

"Money and... self-improvement?"

What a trio they were.

The desire to survive, get money, and improve oneself.

Looking through the gap in the obsidian wall, Raven deadpanned before looking at Ren and sarcastically imitating him.

" 'It'll be a quick in and out mission, I swear! You won't have to fight or do anything besides dig' "

On the other hand, Zeng peered through the gap with interest, seemingly attracted to something in the vault.

Leaving the two boys behind, Ren crouched downwards and stared through the vault, attempting to confirm whether or not the beast was free or not.

Eventually realizing that the vault was untouched and clean, Ren sighed and looked up at Ruby.

"Well, I honestly have no idea what to do now."

He needed to go into the vault.

Ren needed to help protect it from the possible intruder, or the mystical beast would be set free.

Yet...if he entered the vault with the main cast, the two recruiters he fought earlier, and Astrid, things would get violent fast.

He couldn't enter with his mask or create another one as they would know he was a robber, and obviously, he couldn't go as Ren.

Crouching down beside Ren, Ruby also stared through the gap for a couple of seconds before asking.

"You want to go inside so you can protect the doomsday button inside, but you can't go inside because all of them are in there, right?"

As Ren nodded his head, Ruby let out an agitated sigh and complained.

"You know, one second, you're robbing a vault, and the other, you're protecting the world from a button. You really are a hero villain."

Recalling his answer to Ruby's question from the bet, Ren smiled and glanced at her.

However, behind them, Raven interrupted with a depressed voice.

"I hate to interrupt, but what is this about a button???"

In unison, both Ruby and Ren replied

"It's a free-money button."Nôv(el)B\\jnn

"...oh really?"

Unable to comprehend why his boss was attempting to enter the same vault he had just escaped from, Raven also crouched down.

Breaking the silence, Ruby suddenly muttered.

"Well...I do have an idea."
