Chapter 120 The Trials [ 7 ]
Desperate, I throw myself to the side, trying to evade the wall of flames that rushes towards me with a blazing fury. Although I manage to partially dodge, the infernal heat reaches me before the flames do, a suffocating warning of the real danger that is about to engulf me. I almost manage to escape unharmed, but the flames brush my body, searing me on contact.
- You've taken a breath attack!
- Fire damage: 429! (221 Resisted)
HP: 1334/1763
I quickly roll on the ground, trying to smother the flames that have attached themselves to my clothes and skin. Four hundred points of damage, and that's despite having resisted over two hundred... this is insane. If a simple graze was this devastating, a direct hit would certainly finish me off.
"I'm an idiot... An overconfident idiot!" I silently berate myself. From the first moment I saw the draco, I should have stepped back and used meditation to complete my basic upgrade. If I had reached rank two, I would have a better chance of defeating this creature.
Because of my overconfidence in being stronger than humans, I have become arrogant and blind. At least no one else is here with me; if I fall, I alone will pay the price for my stupidity. But thinking about this now does me no good, I must concentrate on surviving this fight if I ever want to see the others again.
- You have received a claw attack! Damage: 307 HP!
HP: 1027/1763
Distraction is costly. I don't manage to completely dodge the claw attack, but at least I manage to sever the draco's leg joint in the same move. We are both wounded, but his larger body makes him much less vulnerable to blood loss. When the drake tries to claw me again, I duck just in time, touching his leg as I pass and channeling my power into a single point.

The drake roars in fury and jerks its paw away from me in an instinctive movement, the electricity from my attack still sizzling in its scales. Taking advantage of its distraction, I dart toward its hind leg and nail Blitz in the softer scales, right where its paw meets its body. With a sharp twist, I release Blitz and place my hand on the drake's side, preparing a second strike.

The draco lets out an even louder roar and hurls its tail at me like a deadly whip. I barely manage to jump to dodge the blow, feeling the air cut close to me. As I land, I quickly move to the right to avoid being trapped; I know that if it corners me, I won't stand a chance of survival. Its intelligence is evident, as it continues to corner me in an attempt to corner me in areas where my mobility would be next to nothing.
I take a shaky breath, tired from the constant effort as I circle the drake, looking for an opportunity. The battle is starting to take its toll on me, but I've been watching its every move and I think I've identified a weak spot. The head seems to be the only part of its body that can reach its own back. If I can get there, I will only have to worry about dodging its bite.
However, this strategy is a risk. On its back, my options for dodging will be limited. But I have no choice, I'm losing ground and I have to turn the tide of this fight. I slowly maneuver to the side, tempting him to use his signature tail sweep.
After a few seconds, the sweep comes. I jump to dodge it, but the drake has learned from my movements and changes direction halfway. Had I jumped on its tail as before, it would have caught me with the change of direction. However, the deception gives me just what I need: a perfect opportunity to propel myself and land on its back.
As I run down his spine, I feel his body twist under my feet. Its head turns to try to bite me, and I prepare to dodge, but the drake surprises me again. Instead of attacking me with its jaws, it drops to the ground, twisting its body in an attempt to shake me off. I find myself desperately running on its moving back, trying to steady myself as if balancing on a log in a raging river.
The drake completes the turn and manages to stay on its legs again, but it doesn't stop; it begins to roll again, straight toward the wall with the clear intention of crushing me or knocking me off balance. In an instant of decision, I plant my feet firmly on its back and, with a mighty leap, propel myself upward.
I dig the claws of my boots and one hand into the ceiling, struggling to hold on as the drake roars and lunges toward the wall. I know I won't be able to hold on when it impacts, so, just seconds before the crash, I release my grip and leap again, straight at the draco.
The draco's impact against the wall shakes the entire room, but I'm airborne, safe, and ready to launch into the attack once more.
The draco crashes violently against the wall and is left momentarily belly up, vulnerable. Seizing the opportunity, I firmly grab Blitz with both hands and, with all my strength and determination, drive it into his abdomen. The blade sinks to the hilt, and a piercing roar erupts from the drake's maw, echoing throughout the room. Wasting no time, I firmly plant my feet and struggle to free Blitz, pulling and twisting the weapon as the draco writhes in agony.
Finally, I manage to free Blitz with a breathless effort and pull back just in time to prevent the furious draco from trying to roll on top of me in its effort to rejoin. Watching his staggering movement and the pained expression on his face, I realize that my attack has caused significant damage. Although the battle is far from over, I allow myself a brief moment of hope: not everything has gone as I planned, but this assault is certainly a small triumph.
Cautiously, the draco watches me as I take a few steps back, giving me a breather to catch my breath. But this moment of respite is short-lived. Without warning, the drake charges toward me, its huge jaws open, baring its sharp teeth as if it intends to engulf me whole.
Instead of dodging to the side, as the drake probably expects, I wait until the last instant and leap upward, just as its head is about to impact. For an instant that seems eternal, I see those huge, menacing fangs passing beneath my feet, a sight that sends a shiver down my spine. I place a hand on its forehead, using its own momentum to propel me even further, creating space to completely dodge the blow.

Excellent! Not only has the damage increased, but I now have a bit more range. I've barely finished processing my improved ability when I feel a violent impact.
The drake's tail strikes me with devastating precision, tossing me around as if I were a single leaf caught in a gale. I'm blown through the air and the blow steals my breath; I crash into a corner of the room, and an intense stab of pain runs down my back.
- You've suffered a tailspin! Damage: 137 HP.
HP: 890/1763
I try to catch my breath, each breath feeling like a superhuman effort. Before I can even recover, I see the draco turn in my direction, a fierce gleam in its eyes. He inhales deeply, his nostrils and throat lighting up with the fiery glow of flames. Panic seizes me as I realize my situation: I'm trapped in a corner with no room to dodge. If I get hit by a direct fire attack... I'm toast, literally.
