Chapter 589: Chapter 0589: Advent (Request for Subscription)

The Pottery Family!

It was famous for generations of devotion to the Goddess of Light and for inheriting the path of the [Demon Hunter].

Ever since the holy war, the main lineage followed the Goddess Church to the White Eagle Federation and has been in decline ever since.

However, the branch families that carry the Demon Hunter bloodline should have preserved some through the long years, especially those who stayed in the Chris Empire at the time.

Rod had once investigated this aspect, and received the news that they too were in decline.

Su Lu never would have thought that on the Zoterlan Continent, where humans and other races battled at the front lines, he could still find a descendent of the Pottery family with a very pure lineage.

“Elena?”

He was looking down at the scavengers’ camp below and the jackal men who, although they had retreated, remained savage and didn’t leave, but rather bared their teeth at the people inside the camp, not saying a word.

A few of the scavengers’ unlucky fellows had been caught and dragged out, where they were now suffering the fate of being ripped apart and eaten.

“No…”

Seeing this, all the scavengers inside the camp were furious.

“We can’t go out!”

Elena gritted her teeth and roared, “Otherwise we will fall into their trap! We have already sent out a signal. As long as we hold on for half a day more, help will arrive!”

“Why are these damn wolf cubs so clever today?”

A big man with a moustache spat out a mouthful of spit.

“Yes, they usually wouldn’t be this tenacious. They would leave after one or two unsuccessful assaults… let alone be this bold, unless there is a leader.”

Elena affirmed.

Although ordinary jackal men are brutal, their cunning is no more than that of animals.

But the true Transcendents among them would possess wisdom equal to that of humans.

“There is a jackal man Priest supporting them from inside? Or an awakened jackal man Warlock?” The moustached man gritted his teeth, looked around and said in a low voice, “We don’t have many bullets left, I’m afraid we won’t hold out until the rescue team arrives…”

Elena had a sullen expression, knowing that this was the reality.

This small forward camp was doomed to be destroyed, the way ahead for her was either to escape or to die.

“So…”

She stared at her teammate and asked calmly.

Scavengers can be seen as mercenaries, among whom there might be some friendships, but definitely not many.

“So… if we, the professionals, band together, we might be able to break out!” The moustached man said coldly.

“Leave the others behind as bait?”

Elena roared in a low voice, “I would never do that, I swore! I won’t abandon my comrades!”

“Don’t be foolish, there are hundreds of jackal men outside, and there might be Priests and Warlocks casting spells. If we stay here, we will die, it’s as simple as that.”

The moustached man roared back.

“Maybe, I’m not very clever, but my father once said that in such situations, he would choose to live towards death!”

Elena suddenly stood up and said loudly, “All the professionals, stand up! We have to assault their pack and kill their leading wolf before the next attack!”

The scavengers looked at each other in bewilderment, and the moustached man stared at her as if she were a fool.

Charging into the pack of wolves, let alone whether they could find the leading wolf, even if they found and killed it, they wouldn’t come back alive, they would be torn to pieces by the angry pack!

“This is the only way for most people to survive. I need teammates.”

The young girl bravely looked at the others.

Unfortunately, most of them were lowering their heads, not daring to meet her gaze.

“Perhaps… let’s wait a little longer, the Imperial reinforcements are on their way.”

“If you want to play the hero, go ahead, but don’t drag us into this.”

“The camp is safe, stepping outside is suicide!”

Glares and murmuring sounds reached her, making the young girl almost insufferably infuriated.

“Awooo!”

Just then, another deep, desolate wolf cry echoed through the air.

In the circle of jackal men, an elder jackal man with white hair was surrounded. His green eyes were filled with a brutal, cunning light, a necklace of unidentified creature skulls hanging from his neck.

He shot the camp a cold glance, then thrust a massive stake into the ground. Nôv(el)B\\jnn

A halo of light spread out, and all the jackal men began to roar as if they had just been invigorated by a powerful stimulant.

Amidst the crescendos of wolf cries, the scavengers inside the camp looked at each other in fear and confusion.

“Jackal man… High Priest?”

“This… this is equivalent to a level-four occupational person… especially since it has the ability to amplify the general capabilities of ordinary jackal men, making them comparable to level-two.”

“We’re doomed… we’re going to die.” The bearded man looked dazed and disheveled, all thoughts of running for the hills gone from his mind.

“We… probably can’t kill it.”

The spark in Elena’s eyes had also completely dimmed.

But just as she was preparing to face death,

The world in her eyes suddenly slowed down. The cries of despair and prayers of everyone around her… it was as if they were separated from her by a filmy barrier.

The flow of time became slower and slower, until eventually, it came to a complete halt.

Everything around her, both people and objects, even the jackal men that were charging once again, had all turned into statues at this moment.

“Why?”

Elena looked at her hands in confusion: “What’s going on?”

“Such intense dissatisfaction… what a delicious emotion…”

A voice sounded, transforming into the figure of a young knight.

“Who… are you?” In the still world, Elena looked at the knight, her heart sinking.

“Chief of the Round Table Knights Group—Apocalypse Knight. My lord has heard your pleas and sent me here!” Su Lu answered seriously.

Yet, Elena’s face seemed as though it had been slashed: ‘It can’t be… these were merely impromptu pleas from a few dozen people on the brink of death. Even the Seven Major Orthodox Gods would not consider it worth their time. How could it be possible that it caught the attention of an unknown entity?’

She realized that maybe the nonchalant plea for help from her companions as they faced death, “whatever entity you are, please save me!”, had attracted an Evil God or a False God!

But considering that even one of the being’s followers was capable of creating such a level of ‘mystique’, it could very well be that this was a true divine entity.

“My lord’s name is ‘Spirit Lord’, are you willing… to surrender everything you have in exchange for power?”

Su Lu looked at Elena with interest.

Before a divine entity, Elena could not even hide her memories; Su Lu had effortlessly scanned her entire life.

Elena Pottery. Born into a Demon Hunter family of the Chris Empire. Due to the Goddess Church’s withdrawal from the Federation, the Pottery branch was long subjected to oppression and hostility. During the period of Twilight of the Gods, by the time Elena was born, her family had already declined to the point of incurring massive debts.

To avoid debt collectors and to look for new opportunities, Elena was brought to the Zotelan Continent by her father in response to the Empire’s call, becoming one of the first generation colonists.

Unfortunately, her father had lacked the necessary strength and was killed in an attack by jackal men during a hunt.

Only Elena was left, alone, struggling to survive until this point.

“Anyway, there’s no worse choice than this, right?”
