Chapter 487: Chapter 487: Domineering

In the end, Luo Ziling did not refuse Chen Qiaoyu’s invitation. After apologizing to Yang Qingyin and saying he had to meet a very special person at noon, he went to meet Chen Qiaoyu as arranged.

Yang Qingyin did not ask Luo Ziling what he was going to do, only instructing him to be careful, and that was all she said.

Luo Ziling thought Yang Qingyin knew Chen Qiaoyu wanted to see him, so he didn’t think much about it.

When he arrived in the private room of the restaurant Chen Qiaoyu mentioned, dressed so as not to be recognized, Luo Ziling was surprised to find only Chen Qiaoyu waiting for him. Initially, Luo Ziling had thought that Yang Yunlin and Chen Qiaoyu wanted to see him together, only to find Chen Qiaoyu alone, which relieved him.

“Auntie, hello,” Luo Ziling greeted her politely, taking off the glasses on his nose, “I didn’t expect you’d invite me for a meal. It’s quite unexpected.”

“Have a seat!” Chen Qiaoyu gave a forced smile, pointed to the table across from her, and gestured for Luo Ziling to sit down and talk.

Luo Ziling did not refuse and sat down straightforwardly.

“Order whatever you want to eat,” Chen Qiaoyu pushed the menu in front of Luo Ziling, “I don’t know your taste, so I didn’t presume to order.”

“I’ll eat anything,” Luo Ziling smiled, “Don’t be polite, Auntie, just order something casual. Or, let me treat you to a meal today. This is the second time I’ve met you, and the first time we are having a meal together, so I, as a man, should treat.”

“It’s fine,” the straight-forwardness and clear smile of Luo Ziling still made Chen Qiaoyu feel quite comfortable.

After staring at Luo Ziling for a while, she sighed softly to herself.

Sometimes, life is just so helpless that you don’t even know how to express it.

Facing Luo Ziling’s visage made her a bit nervous, unsure of how to start the conversation.

She didn’t engage in too much small talk with Luo Ziling, just ordered a few dishes according to her own preferences, then called the waiter to ask them to bring the dishes quickly.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

When she asked Luo Ziling what he wanted to drink, Luo Ziling declined alcohol, stating he still had class in the afternoon, and opted for tea instead, which Chen Qiaoyu did not press further, instead asking the waiter to serve two cups of tea.

Luo Ziling did not proactively inquire why Chen Qiaoyu had invited him out for a meal, waiting for her to speak first.

After an awkward silence, Chen Qiaoyu finally took the initiative to speak, “Yesterday during the day, you went to the Simatai Great Wall with Qingyin, didn’t you?”

“Yes,” Luo Ziling did not deny it—as Chen Qiaoyu asked this, they obviously knew already. “Qingyin and I went to the Simatai Great Wall together; I asked her to join me. Please don’t blame her.”

Last night, Luo Ziling actually did not want to run away. If Yang Qingyin had not insisted that he get out of the car and leave, he would not have fled.

“Do you know that she is about to be engaged to Mr. Fang, Fang Dongxun, from the Fang Family?” Chen Qiaoyu asked again.

“Qingyin mentioned you were forcing her into an arranged marriage with Mr. Fang, but she did not agree,” Luo Ziling did not avoid the question, looking at Chen Qiaoyu. “I know you have your considerations, but you can’t accompany Qingyin for her entire life. Her future is primarily for her to decide. If you make decisions for her, she will obviously have objections and blame you later on. I think this is not good. So I believe it’s better to let Qingyin choose her own path in life.”

Chen Qiaoyu was a bit surprised that Luo Ziling had said so much without her getting the chance to speak formally.

But seeing the seriousness on Luo Ziling’s face as he spoke, she was unexpectedly not annoyed, only sighing before saying, “Although Qingyin appears soft on the outside, she is a very assertive child. You could say she has a soft exterior but a firm interior, and she’s quite stubborn. In high school, she told us she wouldn’t have an early romance and asked us not to interfere with her life. She also wanted to choose her own life later, including marriage. At that time, we all agreed, knowing that whoever she fancied would definitely not be bad, and the life she would choose for herself would be well-considered.”

“I understand what you mean, Auntie. If I were not Ling Ruonan’s son, you definitely would not oppose it, right?” Luo Ziling gently asked.

Chen Qiaoyu was stunned for a moment but eventually nodded, confirming Luo Ziling’s statement: “Indeed. You shouldn’t have met in the first place, shouldn’t have come together. Heh, there are too many people who should not have known each other.”

“The tragedies brewed by the elder generation over emotional issues,” Luo Ziling sighed, “I think those past tragedies should serve as lessons, not to be re-enacted by the younger generation. I believe if you force Qingyin to marry someone she does not wish to, the resulting tragedy could be beyond your imagination. As her parents, I think you know this even better than I do.”

Chen Qiaoyu was slightly annoyed that Luo Ziling was so assertive before she could voice her full intentions, but in the end, she managed to keep her temper in check.

Maintaining control of her emotions, she said softly, “Last night, after Qingyin came back, she had a fight with her father. In her impulsiveness, she said she would rather not be a part of the Yang Family than agree with the arrangement at home. Her father said that if she were to stop being part of the Yang Family, the losses she faced would exceed her imagination, and she might even not have the opportunity to stay at Yan University. If such a thing were to actually happen, do you think the price of being together is too high?”

“I can’t imagine parents actually making such threats against their own children. If that really happens, I can only say that you don’t deserve to be parents,” Luo Ziling was provoked, suddenly standing up, and boldly said to Chen Qiaoyu: “Don’t try to persuade me; it’s useless. I don’t want the grievance of the older generation to affect my relationship with Qingyin, nor do I wish for anyone to threaten me upfront. We haven’t said that we must be together, nor have we decided to marry, but if one day we both have that thought, we will still do it. Your coercion will only backfire. Thank you for the meal invitation, Auntie, but I must go now, I have class this afternoon!”

Chen Qiaoyu didn’t expect Luo Ziling’s character to be so strong and that beneath his youthful exterior lay such an impulsive heart; she was a bit taken aback. She quickly stood up to stop Luo Ziling: “I didn’t come here today to talk about these things; I just wanted to have a good talk with you. And let me tell you something, I too am a victim of arranged marriages, and so I am strongly opposed to them between families. I don’t want my children to suffer from them either!”

Chen Qiaoyu’s words surprised Luo Ziling, and in the end, he did not leave but sat down again.
