Chapter 219: 134 The Real Culprit (First Update)_3
“Summon the residence physician,” Lady Ling ordered.
“Yes,” Maid replied.
After the maid went to summon the residence physician, Lady Ling went to Gu Changqing’s courtyard, “I noticed your face is injured. I brought some golden wound medicine for you.”
No sooner had she finished speaking than she noticed Gu Changqing’s errand boy was already applying some medicine to his wounds. n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
She smiled, walked over and said, “Well? This doesn’t look like the wound medicine from our residence. Is it a new remedy from the military camp?”
Gu Changqing paused for a moment, “No, it was given by a doctor outside.”
“How can you casually use medicines from outside? Better use the one from our residence” Lady Ling passed her golden wound medicine to him.
Indifferently, Gu Changqing said, “No need, this one is fine.”
Lady Ling was taken aback, she smiled and took back the wound medicine, “Well, as you wish.”
After a pause, she added, “Changqing, this is a matter between you brothers. As your aunt, I shouldn’t interfere. But Chenglin is your biological younger brother. No matter how much he is in the wrong, you shouldn’t decide his guilt based only on your wife’s words. I’m not saying you’re wrong. I’m just saying such a decision will make Chenglin believe that you are biased towards your wife, no longer loving him.”
Gu Changqing retorted, “If being fair one time is considered favoring others, then what do you call my past indulgence for him?”
Lady Ling was taken aback, and after pause she said, “But he’s your brother. You should favor your brother…”
Instead of continuing, Gu Changqing changed the subject, “Aunt, did the Yao family really kill my mother?”
Lady Ling looked at him curiously, “Why are you suddenly asking this?”
Gu Changqing pensively replied, “There have always been rumors in the residence that my mother was killed by the Yao family.”
Lady Ling gave a light laugh, “These are all baseless accusations. Listen to them if you will, but be careful not to take them to heart.”
“I have evidence. It’s because of this evidence I believed it for so many years,” said Gu Changqing.
“What evidence?” Lady Ling inquired.
Gu Changqing explained, “During my mother’s illness, someone wrote a letter to my father. The gist was to express affection and inquire about when my father intended to marry her into the residence. The letter fell into my mother’s hands, and her condition worsened.”
Lady Ling was visibly surprised, “I didn’t anticipate such an occurrence.”
Gu Changqing recalled, “The Yao family was my mother’s good friend. In those days, they were frequently seen coming and going from Marquis Residence. Somebody saw the Yao family secretly place this letter in my father’s study. A few days later, my mother called the Yao family over, and outrightly asked her if she wanted to be my father’s successor wife. At that time, I was eavesdropping from outside the door. Had she admitted then, I would have been saved from bearing this resentment for so many years.”
Lady Ling widened her eyes in surprise, “Did she refuse? And then why did she write the letter…”
Gu Changqing said, “In front of my mother, she acted lofty and virtuous. However, behind her back, she was already engaged in a clandestine affair with my father. Tell me, wasn’t my mother literally killed by her anger?”
Lady Ling gave a dry laugh, “With so much evidence at hand, why were you asking previously if the Yao family was your mother’s killer?”
Gu Changqing replied firmly, “Because today she said that she hadn’t done a single thing to apologize to us.”
Lady Ling gave a light laugh, “Just because she said it, you believed it?”
Gu Changqing held tightly the dagger he had managed to take from the Yao family, “She came over today prepared to die. What need is there to lie at such a time?”
Lady Ling replied, “Perhaps for her children?”
Gu Changqing said, “Gu Yan has his sister, he is not interested in the Marquis Residence’s properties.”
Lady Ling smiled lightly, “Is this also something she stated?”
Gu Changqing shook his head. It was indeed something Mrs. Yao had claimed, but he had more so felt it from his own perception of Gu Jiao and Gu Yan.
Gu Changqing looked at Lady Ling and asked, “Aunt, who do you think was the one who truly caused my mother’s death?”
Lady Ling silently squeezed her hand shut.
