The Max Level Hero Has Returned!

Chapter 886

Chapter 886

Boom!!

Riding on the back of Megalodria as it tore through space, Davey fell into a deep silence.

"Something feels off."

"What do you mean?"

"Nothing... We're almost there."

At his words, Megalodria began to gradually slow down and descend.

[Is that island what we’re looking for, Contractor?]

"No. Below it.

[The undersea? It’d definitely be in the ocean.]

Behemoth wasn’t confined to living underwater. It could wander on land with its four massive legs just fine. However, as a marine Mythical Beast King by nature, it had a strong preference for water.

If it had actually fled to an island, Davey knew there was no way it could hide its gigantic form from him.

"Behemoth’s enormous body has always been its weakness."

"Still, before we descend..."

Sitting atop Megalodria, Davey lightly clapped.

Whummm!!

At that moment, light enveloped both him and Kouna.

"Megalodria, wait here until I give you the signal."

[Understood...]

"What are you planning to do...?"

"Do you like skydiving?"

"What? You can't be serious!"

Thud!! Boom!!

Without hesitation, Davey simply hurled Kouna off into the sky, then gracefully leapt after her.

"Aaahhh!!"

Her terrified scream echoed through the air.

They were thousands of feet above the ground, plunging without parachutes—clearly a feat no sane person would attempt if there were no countermeasures. He, of course, had a plan.

[7th Circle Gravity Spell] [Gravity Counter Inversion]

Whoosh!!

Suddenly, the gravity pulling them down disappeared, and even the kinetic energy dissipated.

While a 6th Circle Reverse Gravity spell gradually reduced the effect of gravity, the 7th Circle Gravity Counter Inversion took it a step further, nullifying even the kinetic energy of a fall.

Landing on the sandy beach located on the edge of the island, Kouna collapsed and gasped for air.

"Pant... pant..."

"Scared, are we?"

"We just almost died!"

Davey looked at her calmly as she shouted in frenetic frustration.

Even back when she had served as a minister for Arbit, she wasn’t exactly devoid of emotion. Still, she now seemed much more expressive than before.

It was clear that Arbit had done something to her before disappearing. As his minister, she had been that expressive. Now, however, it was as if her heart was overflowing with emotions.

Of course, Davey didn’t bother pointing this out to her.

"If you don’t want to follow me, you can head back. I’ll even lend you Fire Chicken so that you can have a safe return trip."

"No, I’m coming with you. I need to confirm the prophecy myself."

Kouna insisted on following. He figured she had enough strength to protect herself, so it’d be fine.

"If you get in the way, I’m going to send you back immediately."

"Alright. By the way... Didn’t you say it was under the sea?"

"I did."

"Then how are you planning to get there?"

Instead of answering, Davey just walked ahead without saying anything. Shortly afterward, they arrived at a massive iron door hidden deep within the forest.

"This is..."

"Shall we head in?"

"How do you plan to get through without being noticed—"

Shing!!

When he cleanly bisected the thick iron door with one swing of Red Ribbon, Kouna turned silent.

"Now they’re definitely going to notice!"

"That’s fine."

[5th Circle Invisibility]

After casting a spell to make them invisible, Davey quietly stepped inside.

As expected, the place was heavily guarded. The walls were lined with surveillance cameras, mercenaries of uncertain nationality patrolling regularly.

"Hm?"

Nearby, soldiers armed with black rifles chatted casually as they guarded the path leading deep underground.

"What is it?"

"Nothing. Just thought I felt something."

"Maybe you’re still recovering from yesterday’s wild night."

"Yeah, I probably shouldn’t have drank so much..."

As Kouna glanced nervously at Davey, he silently scanned the surroundings and slipped past the guards without making a sound. He knew that it was important to remain cautious for now, at least until they understood the purpose of this place.

"Hm? Is that the elevator moving?"

"Someone must’ve called it from below."

"Let it be. If we make a fuss, it’ll just be a pain to deal with—those people can be a real headache sometimes.”

Even as the doors of the elevator closed and it began its descent, the guards didn’t seem overly concerned.

"They’re speaking in... Spanish,” Kouna whispered.

"Spanish? Makes sense, since it sounded kinda twisted."

"I met the Spanish ambassador once and learned some basic phrases. A lot of the words they were using sounded similar."

Multinational mercenaries. n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

Although they were in U.S. territory, it seemed like the Americans weren’t the only ones here. The President of the United States that Davey knew was reckless, but certainly not the kind of person to back such a questionable operation.

Descending into the depths via the elevator, the two arrived at the main base. As the doors slowly opened, they saw a massive facility unfold. Researchers in white lab coats bustled about with clipboards in their hands.

“What... What do we do now?”

Kouna mouthed silently, showing her uncertainty. Davey quietly scanned the surroundings.

‘Well, I can tell this place wasn’t built for any good purpose.’

Then his eyes landed on a sign labeled Recordkeeping not far away, so he pointed toward it.

“Let’s start there. Once we find out what’s going on, we’ll drown this entire base,” he mouthed back.

* * *

The recordkeeping area stored a tremendous amount of data.

As a local repository, there weren’t a lot of people in it.

Hm... What a headache. Files ‘A’ through ‘F’ are all sorted, but...”

A man murmured to himself as he tapped away on a computer, then stood up with a sluggish stretch.

Haaah... I should grab some coffee...”

Chewing on some bubble gum, he yawned and turned away with a weary expression.

And then—

“Hello there.”

Whack!!

The man’s pupils dilated in shock as he found himself face-to-face with a faintly smiling Davey. He opened his mouth, but he didn’t get the chance to scream—he was silenced as Davey chopped his neck, rendering him unconscious.

“Couldn’t you have just asked him?” Kouna asked.

“Well, that would’ve been a hassle.”

He dragged the unconscious researcher and shoved him into a locker, before turning his attention to the nearby documents.

“Should I check the computer?”

“Yeah, go ahead. I’ll browse through these in the meantime.”

Davey pulled out a file from the ‘A’ section and began flipping through it.

The papers were several years old. Despite being well-preserved, the humid environment of the underwater base had given the pages a slightly brittle feel. Flipping through them at an incredible speed, Davey eventually smirked.

“Jackpot,” he said.

Kouna also spoke up at the same time and turned to Davey, “I found something.”

“So this facility was originally built by an international corporation for monster research.”

“Yup, that’s what it says here too.”

“It was specifically designed to capture and study marine life and aquatic monsters.”

As she typed away, the computer printed out documents. Soon enough, they had their hands on information spanning a vast collection of monsters and aquatic creatures.

“So the entire world sponsored this wretched organization?” Davey mused.

“I don’t think so,” Kouna said as she printed out a list of names and faces that showed the researchers associated with the facility.

“The people listed in this document—I haven’t seen a single one of them.”

“Maybe some other group took over the place at one point?”

“Hard to say.”

Whatever the case, it was safe to assume that the original researchers were gone and a new group had taken over, exploiting the facility to their own ends.

“So, the U.S. is just letting this happen on their own soil? Or are they turning a blind eye?” he said.

“Or worse—they’re the masterminds behind it,” Kouna speculated.

Despite all of this, Davey was certain of one thing: the people currently occupying this place were not the ultimate adversaries he was looking for.

“What should we do now?”

Davey pondered silently, considering why Behemoth had fled there of all places. Despite bearing the massive burden of being branded a coward and a liar, Behemoth hadn’t sought to explain itself—instead, it went into hiding.

He knew it had to be nearby, somewhere not far from the facility.

After a moment of thought, Davey made up his mind.

“What better option is there? First we take over, and then we’ll figure things out from there.”

He then flicked his fingers at the unconscious researcher, effortlessly snapping his neck—the crimes committed here were already thoroughly documented in the systems of the facility.

Most of the taboos they broke were considered the bare minimum values of human beings and living creatures. Even compared to Verdandi’s adopted son, King Grid—who at least adhered to some sense of moral restraint—what was happening in this facility was utterly appalling.

If anyone were to ask him if he had the right to personally judge and punish them, he knew he would say no. But at the very least, after they dared to exploit the power of the moon he created through so much trouble, and even manipulated Shane’s Mythical Beast King to commit these atrocities, there was no chance he was going to treat them as human.

He believed that would be far too generous.

He knew the resistance would be fierce.

He wasn’t planning to completely obliterate the facility. He was aware that there were still plenty of people alive inside. No matter their reasons for ending up here, Davey knew he couldn’t arbitrarily decide what their lives were worth.

After turning a corner, he extended his hand toward two approaching soldiers. In an instant, a sickening crunch echoed as the two crumpled to the floor and blood splattered out from their bodies.

Davey stepped forward with a mischievous grin. At the same time, a group of soldiers further down the hall spotted him. Their faces twisted in shock as they raised their weapons and shouted out at him.

“Freeze!”

They shouted in different languages, but he could clearly tell what they were trying to say.

When Davey didn’t stop, they shot right away as if they felt something eerie about him. The steel bullets traveled at supersonic speeds, and just as they were about to pierce him, he swung his hand at an inhuman speed, brushing them aside onto the ground.

As the yellow-tipped bullets clattered to the floor at his feet, the soldiers made shocked faces.

Laughing in a mockingly playful tone, Davey finally said, “I’ve always wanted to do this... Ready or not, here I come! You can run, but you can’t hide.”

Crack!!

Behemoth had absolutely no clue that Davey had chased it down and that the catastrophic invasion had begun.

* * *

At the same time, somewhere else in the undersea—

Behemoth lay strapped to a massive iron bed. It frowned as it endured unrelenting pain.

“Great! This is fantastic!! Such a perfect amplification rate—you’re truly remarkable! Thanks to you, we’ve achieved further improvements!”

The voice of an elderly man came through a monitor, his expression gleeful as he observed Behemoth’s suffering.

Behemoth, the ruler of the ocean, the Tyrant of the Undersea.

Its patience was wearing thin.

Its hatred for living beings, its loathing for humans—it all seeped into every fiber of its being. It couldn’t fathom how a predator of the undersea like itself had fallen into the hands of such pathetic mortals, only to be subjected to such humiliation.

The thoughts spun round and round in its mind, which grew other ideas...

That it knew it could kill humans with just a swing of its hand.

That it wanted to kill them, and that it wouldn’t be difficult at all.

However...

It couldn’t move.

Other than Shane, its contractor, no being had ever caused it such inner turmoil.

Behemoth slowly unclenched its tightly balled fist.

It reminded itself that it would hold on just a bit more, and when it got its hands on the thing it had been looking for, it’d devour every human in sight.

The extreme fury of its will began to meld with its immense power.

Then—

Thud!!!

A massive tremor shook the underwater facility to its core.
