Chapter 656 Confusion
Ariel looked at Damien's hand. And then she looked at his face.
Then she asked him in a stern voice, "And what about the hell you put me through?"
She clenched her fists and blurted out, "There is someone else who is doing his best to pull me out of the hell that you put me through, Damien. And you show up now, after all these years, and say that you want me to give you a hand again? It's not that easy."
Ariel felt a sharp pain in her heart as soon as those words came out of her mouth.
And so did Damien. Hearing Ariel mentioning about Kenneth made his heart ache to the deepest corners.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
Ariel regretted saying those hurtful words to him when he was finally back in her life after so long; when he was brave enough to ask her for her help.
She gave a sorry glance to him and said in a soft voice, "Damien, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that."
Damien gave a mirthless smile and shook his head. "No, you are not the one who should be asking for forgiveness. And you have every right to say what you said. I hurt you a lot, didn't I?"
Ariel disregarded his question and bluntly asked something out of their ongoing topic, "What were you doing in my room with the invisibility spell on? And since when have you been following me? Don't deny it because I had seen you in the town yesterday."
Damien gave a subtle smile and playfully raised his hands in the air. And he said, "You caught me. I was indeed following you. I wanted to see you again and beg for your forgiveness. In fact, I had wanted to do that for the past seven years. But I lacked the confidence."
Ariel fisted on her waist and raised her brows at him. And she asked in disbelief, "You lacked confidence for seven years? Seven? Do I scare you that much? Did you think I would eat you up or something?"
Damien looked down on the floor and mumbled, "I was scared that you would beat me to a pulp like how you did a while ago."
Ariel showed her fist to Damien and sarcastically said, "Hey, don't make me beat you up some more, you arse! That's not an excuse for not coming back sooner."
Damien smiled but continued speaking in a sad voice, "Well, this time, I mustered up the courage to teleport inside the Palace and not just outside of Wyverndale boundaries. I happened to hear that you all were going on a journey. So I followed you all since the first night of your trip."
"Huh! Funny how I heard an explosion that night yet didn't suspect a thing," Ariel folded her arms and thought back to that night. "How could I be so dumb? Of course, that was you. The explosion noise was oddly familiar."
Damien pressed his lips together in sadness because he recalled when exactly she had heard those explosions for the first time in her life and how everything went downhill from there.
Ariel saw him losing himself in his world. So she poked him and asked, "Talk."
Damien came out of his daze and continued explaining, "And I was trying to find the right window of opportunity to talk to you. But the window never appeared…" he softly chuckled and said, "…until you bumped on me a while ago."
The subtle smile that was on his face disappeared. He scoffed at himself and sadly mumbled, "But I don't know why I thought that I could show up now and expect everything to go back to how it was before."
"I must have been out of my mind when…" he unintentionally glanced at the door as if he wanted to run out of that room. He sighed and continued, "… when I decided to show up unannounced like this in your life again."
He clenched his fist and cursed himself for having passed out in her room.
And he regretfully said, "After I followed you around, I could see that you are happy now. And that is all I could ever ask for. I should have gone back to hell before bumping into you and reminding you of the hurtful past again. I should have stayed out of your life for good. All I do is bring sadness and pain in your lif–."
He felt his ears ringing when he suddenly got another tight slap from Ariel again. He touched his cheek and shot a quizzical glance at Ariel.

"Really, Damien?" Ariel grabbed Damien by his collar and tugged him down.
And she snarled at him, "Just a while ago, you were saying that you were ready to take my hand. And now, are you saying that it would have been better if you never showed yourself to me? And what was your grand plan after running away now as well? Were you planning on never seeing me again? Did you just talk to me because I happened to bump into you?"
Damien held Ariel's wrist and lightly shook his head. "I don't know, Ariel. I was confused. I think I still am. I don't know if I should try to mend our friendship or go back to hell and never return."
"Listen to me, you shitty demon." Ariel narrowed her eyes at him and warned him, "Don't even think about tucking your tail in between your legs and running back to Hell. Because if you try to run away from me again, I swear I will hunt you down, no matter in which realm you hide. And I will hand you your arse."
Ariel threateningly shook Damien and asked in a chilling voice, "Do you understand me? I said, you are not going anywhere. You are not allowed to abandon me again."
Damien was trying his best to control his heartbeat because Ariel was pulling him down and her face was dangerously close to his. And she looked terrifying. He could tell clearly that her threats weren't a joke. He was sure that she meant every word she said.
He cleared his throat and then asked, "Does this mean that you have forgiven me? Am I your friend again?"
Ariel finally let go of his collar. And she replied in a calculative way, "I had already forgiven you for what you did to me in Mihir. But I haven't forgiven you for what you did to me after. And as for your status as my friend, you will have to earn it again."
Ariel was afraid that Damien would sneak back to Hell and never return again. So she further added, "If you leave the Earth realm before I say that you are my friend again, I will never give you the chance to return back in my life ever after. And trust me when I say this, I am not bluffing. Don't test me."
