Chapter 139: This Is All Brandon’s Destiny
Chapter 139: Chapter 139: This Is All Brandon’s Destiny
Abigail Green came out of the nursery holding Teddy; the little guy had fallen asleep again.
This time, however, he slept soundly.
Kennan Max had already explained the truth to Noel Roberts. As Noel had predicted before, he couldn’t help but feel annoyed, having been misled by both Abigail Green’s emotions and Pullan’s words.
His previously charming and unrestrained face now showed rare signs of annoyance. He coldly returned to the car.
Kennan Max escorted Abigail Green back to the Piers’ Mansion.
To Abigail’s surprise, the Piers’ servants, who had originally seemed to vanish from the world, returned to the courtyard, each going about their duties as if nothing had happened.
Grandfather Piers, dressed in a blue-gray Zhongshan suit, leaned on a chair in the central hall. When he saw Abigail carrying Teddy inside, he stood up with his cane. “How is Teddy?” n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
“He’s fine. He’s asleep,” Abigail replied softly.
“That’s good. That’s good…” Grandfather Piers murmured “That’s good” a few more times, finally feeling relieved. Then he glanced at the others. “You all can leave. Judy, take the baby upstairs to sleep. Abigail, stay.”
Before long, Abigail and Grandfather Piers were the only ones left in the spacious living room.
Without the earlier tension over his great-grandson, Grandfather Piers looked at Abigail with rare seriousness.
“You’re wondering about Brandon Piers’ condition, right?” guessed Abigail.
Indeed, Grandfather Piers’ expression tightened as he sighed deeply. “Abigail… Did you close Brandon’s chest?”
Abigail nodded. “Yes, the situation was urgent at that time.”
“Good child. Thank you regardless.” The old man initially intended to inquire about Brandon’s condition. But, seeing Abigail’s clear eyes, he remembered that she was just a medical student. Even managing to close Brandon’s chest in such a situation was already quite an achievement. Expecting anything more would be wishful thinking.
After all, she was just a child. Jeffrey Foster couldn’t guarantee the surgery’s success either. How could Abby? Asking more would only burden the child.
“I’m just glad Grandfather Piers doesn’t blame me.” Abigail didn’t understand what the old man was thinking and replied politely.
“How could I blame you? This is all Brandon’s destiny. By the way, your engagement is on the 23rd. If you need anything, feel free to ask me.” Extending Brandon’s life was already a great favor, and the old man always understood favors clearly.
“Thank you, Grandfather Piers.” Upon hearing about the engagement on the 23rd, Abigail felt indifferent. She suspected that those who pushed her to the morgue were mostly sent by Clark Stone and Ruby Green. It was fortunate that she had narrowly escaped death and saved Brandon; otherwise, she couldn’t imagine what today’s situation would have been.
Thinking of Ruby Green and Clark Stone, Abigail’s eyes turned icy before she quickly concealed it. Tentatively, she asked, “Grandfather Piers, the second young master’s engagement with my sister is also on the 23rd. But the second young master just had surgery; he can’t move easily. What about the engagement?”
Abigail wanted to know Grandfather Piers’ attitude towards Brandon’s engagement.
“Abigail, don’t worry. Brandon’s engagement with your sister will proceed as planned. But Brandon will need to attend in a wheelchair, which will inconvenience your sister.” The old man assumed Abigail was worried about her sister. He had already asked Brandon’s opinion at the hospital today. Though he was dissatisfied, he still respected Brandon’s request to proceed with the engagement.
After all, if something happened to Brandon, Teddy would need someone to take care of him.
And entrusting the child to the biological mother was more reliable than to anyone else.
As for what the Greens thought, Grandfather Piers wasn’t worried. The Green family had already visited Brandon at the hospital before he returned to the mansion, making their stance clear.
But Abigail wasn’t as optimistic. She hadn’t expected that even in his condition, Brandon still planned to proceed with the engagement. Did this mean he had fallen for Ruby Green?
