Chapter 393: Terrance vs Kotoko
“That’s exactly what I wanted to ask you.” Kotoko looked at Terrance and said.
“The recent changes in Fallarbor Town, they’re because of you, aren’t they?”
Kotoko gazed at Terrance calmly. She never imagined that the Coordinator she had ignored at first would suddenly transform into such a mysterious guy!
As the construction team arrived in Fallarbor Town and entered the Old Green House, all the residents of the town were attracted by such a big commotion.
Even Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny had started visiting Fallarbor Town frequently to conduct inspections, seemingly investigating the surrounding geographical environment.
Recalling the incident when Terrance was interacting with the two inspectors, Kotoko grew increasingly uneasy. She had originally returned to Fallarbor Town intending to live a quiet and peaceful life in seclusion. But shortly after her return, a series of unexpected events began unfolding, making it seem as if even this remote little town was now under the League’s watchful eye.
“If they discover my secret…”
Kotoko shook her head, banishing the worst-case scenario from her mind.
Even if her secret was exposed, it wouldn’t matter much. After all, she was the victim.
It was simply that, faced with the unknown, her instincts pushed her to avoid it.The disturbances caused by Terrance inexplicably annoyed Kotoko.
“Oh, I think you’re referring to the construction of the Gym. Yes, that’s because of me.” Terrance replied calmly.
“Gym?” Hearing this news for the first time, Kotoko looked at Terrance in disbelief.
She had speculated that the changes were due to Terrance’s status as a Top Coordinator, but she never imagined it was because of a Gym!
“Gym Trainer? You?” she asked, staring at Terrance.
Terrance nodded. “Sister Kotoko, you still haven’t answered me. What have you been up to these past few years? Of course, if you don’t want to talk about it, that’s fine. As long as you’re still the Sister Kotoko I know, that’s all that matters.”
Even if Kotoko had some hidden past, she was still someone from Fallarbor Town. Terrance’s curiosity was purely personal. If there was any way he could help her, and it was within his capabilities, he wouldn’t hesitate to extend a helping hand to an acquaintance. Besides, it didn’t seem like Kotoko’s return had caused any disruption to the town.
“A Gym Trainer…”
Kotoko wasn’t some naive rookie; she knew exactly what this identity represented. Its prestige and societal status far exceeded that of a Top Coordinator.
Unfortunately, Kotoko still didn’t have a deep understanding of the current Terrance. For a fleeting moment, she felt an impulse to share her experiences with him, thinking that doing so might allow her to finally live in peace. After all, a Gym Trainer was a public figure in the League and had a certain level of influence.
However, after giving it more thought, she ultimately dismissed the idea.
What would be the point of revealing everything? Everything was already in the past.
Besides, Terrance was too young, and that made him seem somewhat unreliable in her eyes.
“I’d like to have a battle with you. Are you interested?” Kotoko asked, looking at Terrance.
“A battle?”
“Sure,” Terrance replied.
“My Pokémon is this one, Sandslash.” Kotoko tossed out a Poké Ball, and a Pokémon with two large claws and a body covered in tough brown quills appeared before Terrance.
Terrance glanced at Sandslash, then turned back to the two Altaria: “Sorry, but I’ll need to interrupt your rest for a bit.”
The two Altaria shook their heads, flapping their wings as if volunteering to fight on Terrance’s behalf. However, Terrance stopped them.
“You haven’t fully recovered yet. I’ll leave this to Arcanine.”
“The Pokémon I’m using is this one,” Terrance said, tossing out a Poké Ball. An Arcanine with clean, neatly groomed flaxen fur appeared.
Arcanine…n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Kotoko observed Terrance closely. Both Altaria and Arcanine were incredibly rare Pokémon. Compared to Sandslash or Vileplume, obtaining them wasn’t even on the same level of difficulty. This only deepened her curiosity about what Terrance had experienced.
However, exactly who is stronger, this battle will be able to tell.
This Sandslash was her second strongest Pokémon. Using it to gauge the results of the fight would give her a rough idea of Terrance’s strength.
If Terrance truly was a Gym Trainer, she expected to face a tough battle.
“Are we doing a one-on-one battle? You can make the first move.”
“In that case, I won’t hold back.”
The two of them retreated to an open area, and their Pokémon stood facing each other, lightning crackling between their eyes. Sandslash exuded a sharp and murderous aura, which made Terrance’s expression shift to one of confusion.
Be it Beedrill or this Sandslash, the aura of Kotoko’s Pokémon was far too unusual.
Could an ordinary Trainer even manage Pokémon like these?
A Pokémon with such aggressive nature and aura, aside from its birth growth environment, is bound to face miserable circumstances if one attempts to tame this temperament later in life.
“Sandslash, Crush Claw!”
Upon receiving Kotoko’s command, the Sandslash immediately dropped to all fours and sprinted forward. Its claws left deep gouges in the ground, the immense force causing severe destruction to the surface. This also highlighted Sandslash’s incredible speed.
Crush Claw! Sandslash’s large, white claws slashed viciously as it leaped. Arcanine and Terrance seemed stunned by the sudden explosive power, unable to move. With a loud “bang,” the Crush Claw landed on Arcanine, instantly tearing through its fluffy fur. The sharp, cutting energy coalesced into a whirlwind, surging toward Arcanine.
Just then, a massive explosion of flames erupted from Arcanine’s entire body. The intense heat surged upwards. Sensing the danger, Sandslash immediately aborted its attack and used the force of the explosion to propel itself backward. Its body curled up tightly as it landed safely.
Kotoko frowned. If Sandslash had continued its assault, it might have sustained serious burns. But what concerned her even more was Terrance.
“This Crush Claw… it’s not something trained through conventional methods. It was awakened instinctively during life-or-death battles. The lethality is far too high.”
That move could easily rip through most Pokémon, leaving a gaping wound. Even though Arcanine had undergone extensive endurance training, taking such a blow head-on would still be devastating.
“Outrage.”
Terrance suddenly understood Sandslash’s combat style and realized he could no longer treat this as a normal battle. If he let his guard down, Arcanine could very well be fatally injured.
“Sand Tomb!”
Kotoko issued her next command.
Sandslash clapped its claws together, creating a dull yellow Energy Ball that it hurled to the ground. Instantly, sand swirled into the sky and a massive sandstorm surged toward Arcanine like a sea wave.
“Show them what true explosive power looks like,” Terrance said calmly.
While Sandslash’s claws were undeniably sharp—sharp enough that even Terrance preferred to avoid them—when it came to explosive power, Arcanine wouldn’t lose to it.
As the sandstorm swept over, Arcanine’s eyes glimmered with a faint red light.
