Chapter 383: Strange Sister Kotoko
After returning to Fallarbor Town, Terrance headed straight towards the Old Green House.
“Beauti~fly~~”
Terrance suddenly stopped, causing the Beautifly fluttering beside him to pause as well. It glanced ahead in the direction Terrance was looking, seemingly curious about whether Terrance knew the person up ahead.
“I have some impression… but I’m not sure,” Terrance murmured.
It seems to be a child from Fallarbor Town, two years older than him. When Terrance was eight, she had just turned ten and made a decision that shook the entire town.
She ran away from home to become a Trainer.
It was also because of this incident that the word “Trainer” became taboo in Fallarbor Town at that time. A little girl, barely ten years old, left home alone to become a Trainer, and there was no news of her for two years. To say that nothing dangerous happened to her, no one would believe it.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
This kind of “Trainer” wasn’t officially recognized by the League; it is equivalent to an ‘unorthodox path’ and belongs to the group of Trainers who find it the hardest to get by.
“Beauti~fly?” Beautifly was at a loss.
“She left Fallarbor Town before you came to the Old Green House. It’s normal you don’t recognize her,” Terrance explained, shaking his head. “I met her back then at the Old Green House. She used to play with the other kids, but it’s been so long—she might not even remember me.”He vaguely recalled that her name was Kotoko. Her parents were orchard farmers in Fallarbor Town. She ran away because of a disagreement with them about becoming a “Trainer”.
Kotoko’s parents wanted her to go to the city to learn a trade and find a stable job, but Kotoko yearned for the life of a Trainer.
One argument led to her decision to run away.
“Chasing dreams” versus “obeying her parents’ wishes”—Terrance couldn’t say who was right or wrong. However, after Kotoko left, her parents didn’t do well, especially since she didn’t send any news back.
Now, seeing Kotoko here, how could Terrance not be surprised?
However, it seemed that Kotoko had indeed become a Trainer.
From an ordinary person who didn’t even own a Poké Ball to someone now commanding a Vileplume to unleash a move. Under this move, the vegetation in the farm emitted a shimmering glow, becoming crystal clear and full of vitality.
“Grassy Terrain,” Terrance whispered.
Though he spoke softly, Kotoko discovered him as he had already gotten closer.
“Who are you?!” Seeing Terrance get closer, Kotoko’s expression became wary. Her eyes locked onto the Beautifly perched on his shoulder. Why is there a Trainer in Fallarbor Town?
“Using Grassy Terrain to improve the quality of crops, Sister Kotoko, it seems you’ve become an excellent Trainer,” Terrance said with a smile.
“You know me?” Kotoko’s wary expression shifted to surprise as she stared at Terrance, her face clouded with thought.
After a moment, she spoke in astonishment, “Terrance?”
Although she was two years older than Terrance, back in the day, Terrance rarely paid attention to her… or rather, Terrance hardly played with any other children, so it took her a long moment to recall who he was.
“It’s me,” Terrance said with a wry smile.
“Sorry, I just got back to Fallarbor Town two days ago and haven’t had the chance to visit everyone yet,” Kotoko said, her expression softening.
Terrance’s expression remained calm, but in his heart, a doubt arose. Even when meeting a stranger, was it necessary to be so wary?
That level of wariness… it felt as though she expected him to attack her at any moment.
Even though Terrance had undergone some training, his sense of danger wasn’t nearly as intense as Kotoko’s. Such instincts weren’t something developed through ordinary experiences.
Even though he was deep in thought, Terrance still replied with a smiling expression: “Yeah, it’s been over five years. I almost didn’t recognize you. If it weren’t for your curly hair, I wouldn’t have been so sure.”
“You too, Tea-Haired,” Kotoko laughed.
Terrance let out an awkward laugh, ignoring the nickname. However, he was quite curious about Kotoko’s experiences over the past five years.
It seems because she had just returned to Fallarbor Town, she wasn’t yet aware of Terrance’s current situation.
“By the way, since I entered Fallarbor Town, I noticed there aren’t many people around. What’s going on?” Terrance asked.
Kotoko replied, “Yesterday and today are the mayor elections, so everyone’s gathered there.”
Terrance nodded. ‘That explains it.’
They didn’t talk much further, agreeing to catch up another time. Terrance noticed that Kotoko seemed reluctant to talk about her experiences, so he didn’t press the matter.
After Terrance left, Kotoko’s previously calm expression turned cold, then shifted into something more complex.
“Everything is in the past now. What I need to do is quickly adapt to normal life again…”
“I need to interact with others more…”
Suddenly, a thought struck Kotoko—how did Terrance know about the move “Grassy Terrain”? And how did he know that “Grassy Terrain” could improve the quality of crops…
Her gaze snapped toward the direction Terrance had left. After five years away, it wasn’t just the small Fallarbor that had changed.
…….
…….
“I’m back.”
Quietly walking into the Old Green House, Terrance found it unusually quiet.
Not a single person?
After making a complete round, it was clear—no one was in the Old Green House.
“Did everyone go to the polling place to join in the fun?” Terrance chuckled to himself. Logically, aside from Chisana, everyone else should have been here. The fact that no one came to greet him was simply too much…
Never mind. Terrance decided to tidy up his room and get everything in order. It seemed he would be spending a good amount of time at the Old Green House again.
Perhaps until… the Gym was fully established?
That thought crossed his mind.
At the same time, Terrance, who had finished his work, was also inspired by Kotoko’s actions just now.
“Grassy Terrain can improve the quality of crops… That’s right, I’ve seen this skill somewhere before.”
“When the Gym is eventually built, it will definitely require a lot of vegetation suitable for Bug-type Pokémon to feed on. It’s best to grow such plants myself, tailoring them to the individual needs of the Pokémon. Imported vegetation can introduce too many uncertainties…..”
“Growing plants takes time. If I had a Pokémon capable of using Grassy Terrain, it would be much more efficient. With the resources I have now, raising a Grass-type Pokémon alongside my current team is entirely manageable. Plus, Grass-type Pokémon are only slightly harder to raise than Bug-types, making them relatively easy to raise.”
Terrance pondered for a moment. Pokémon that could learn Grassy Terrain on their own were rare. Kotoko’s Vileplume was one example. As for other methods… Terrance thought about breeding.
If there were suitable Pokémon, Terrance planned to think it over.
Two hours later, Terrance heard sounds from outside and smiled; it seemed someone had returned.
Pushing the door open, he stepped out and immediately ran into Grandma Arlan, Ayan, and others who had just returned to the Old Green House.
Their faces lit up with joy the moment they saw him.
