CHAPTER 47 - Who's the Winner?
- Do not attack if the other party surrenders or is unconscious.
- Do not take external help—potion, any weapon apart from the one the referee knows of, or any such thing—during the fight.
- Do not attack with the intention of killing.
These were the only rules of the competition, and Alex had explained them so that there was no doubt left in the minds of the participants or the audience.
So, although everyone was surprised by Alex's sudden intervention, after they heard his words, they settled down, their breaths finally returning to them.
Yeah, many were dissatisfied with Alex's actions, as it seemed like the fight was about to reach its end and the winner was about to be decided, but he stepped in. They, however, could do nothing about it as Alex's actions were in no way wrong.
"Well, the semifinalists are now disqualified, as you all can see."
The silence in the Colosseum, which was still maintained, was broken only when Alex spoke again.
What now? The competition is cancelled then? What about the finalist? Such questions could be heard among the whispers of the audience, but no one could give a certain answer, as this had never happened before.
The only one who could do something about it was probably Alex, as he was the host and the referee of the competition, someone with the power to make a decision, and even if it was biased, no one could do anything against him, so all eyes turned toward him.
"What now—is what you all are thinking, isn't it?" Feeling the numerous gazes on himself, Alex smiled, curiously looking at the people in the crowd, and seeing many people nod their heads, he continued.
"Well, the last fight was one of the best fights I had seen until this day—there's no denying it." Alex's words again made many people smile as they believed his words to be true.
This battle between Ben and Keryu was really one of the best most of them had seen. They could feel the fight, even though the fight was between two students who had just started their power journey with little to no mana abilities involved.
It was a battle more epic than Mira and Brisk's, but...
"But they had to go ahead and break the rules, destroying all the fun I was having." Alex's expression turned sore as he said that, and since he was using the Commanding Presence, the audience could feel his dissatisfaction with the result.
Many couldn't help but think the same.
'Why did they have to do it?! They fucking spoiled the fun!'
Such thoughts started to settle in the minds of the people, especially the girls, who just didn't think that anything Alex, the prince of their dreams and thief of their hearts, would be wrong.
Then, with his finger pointing at Mira, he spoke with as much frustration as he could, "So, all I wanted right now was to declare Mira, the finalist, as the winner since she, unlike those two, fought with honesty, and even when the opponent tried to attack her by surprise, she didn't fight back because she knew that her opponent had lost the match."
The next second, however, he sighed, clenching his fist and shaking his head, as if trying to stop himself. "But I won't do it. I don't want to go against my own words." He paused for a breath before he turned back to look at the audience. "I gave you the control of making decisions from the start, so I will leave it in your hands again."
Anyone who met his determined gaze just straightened their backs, feeling the responsibility on their shoulders increasing by folds just by his words alone.
"Please pick up your voting devices, and once I tell you to do it, please select one among the two colors, green and red." Alex kept his gaze on the audience, his face as serious as it could be as he went on.
"Pick green if you believe she, who hadn't done anything wrong instead of playing it fair, should win." He again pointed at Mira, who, even with all this going on, kept staring at Alex's confident and determined contour.
He looked even more handsome in her eyes right now.
"Pick red if you believe we should just cancel the competition." With those words said, Alex took a deep breath, and the audience, with their fingers hovering over the color they wanted to choose, held their breaths, waiting for Alex's signal.
"And, start!"
Ping!
The moment Alex signaled for the start of the voting was the moment the gauge of the green bar filled completely, with there being negligible light in the red bar.
The results were clear. Almost everyone chose to make Mira the winner. They chose green, and Alex, who had turned to look at the board, finally turned back to the audience, a sincere expression on his face as he spoke, "Thanks to your votes, everyone, the winner has been decided."
A small smile made its way to his lips as the audience, fully aware of the results, and as happy as Alex was, but they still waited for him to declare it.
No one said anything as they saw Alex slowly walking up the stage, looking into Mira's eyes, smiling at her before holding her right hand. To them, he was just doing his job.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
"Good job, Mira." Whispered Alex to Mira, and a rare yet soft smile for the first time appeared on her face.
She didn't know why, but right now, her heart felt warm—more warm than it had ever felt. She didn't even know that she was smiling, but she was doing it, and swear to god, she looked mesmerizing, so much so that even Alex was stunned for a while, much less the audience.
Many among the audience thought that they only voted for Mira because of Alex's words, but it changed now.
Now, they were just thankful for Alex making them give their votes, as it was the reason for them being able to see such a beautiful smile.
Alex, however, was quick to break out of his daze, shaking his head and raising Mira's hand high up, doing what he was supposed to do—announce the result.
"The winner of the competition is Mira." He declared, making the audience, who were waiting for this moment, roar at the top of their lungs.
""YEAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!""
"MIRA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Cheers of Mira's name echoed through the colosseum, making the surroundings rumble, sharing their enthusiasm.
By tomorrow, everyone in the academy, even those who haven't attended the competition, will know the name of the winner, Mira. She would be allotted a seat in the student council, making her eligible for many other benefits, but those things would be discovered later.
Right now, under the shouts of Mira's name, Alex's gaze turned to Ben and Keryu, who were being transported to the medical ward in a hurry, ignored by the audience. Their bodies were pulsing, bleeding, and cracking from many spots.
The result of them pushing their bodies more than they should've was becoming apparent now.
'Those wounds are serious enough to make them immobile for at least a month,' Alex mused, as he knew how severe their wounds were. They were quite close to death, maybe playing UNO with the Grimreaper in their heads.
But Alex somehow felt that they would be up and jumping in two weeks at most.
The plot couldn't go on with the main characters inactive, so maybe by some miracle, they would both receive some kind of elixir from someone, making them get better and maybe stronger as well.
Suffering makes the protagonists stronger, after all.
Soon, he just shook his head, not wanting to think too much about those two guys. They won't die anytime soon, and neither did Alex want them to die. They would come in handy later on, so he just shifted his gaze toward the voting board, his expression turning serious.
Someone was waiting for him there, and he had to go meet with them. So, a few moments later, he left the mic with Lilia, who was still backstage, and left the command in her hands. The only thing left to do was let everyone leave in an orderly manner anyway.
He failed to notice the smile on Mira's face fading the moment he let go of her hands, or maybe he intentionally ignored it as he felt that talking to the person behind the board was more important.
But whatever it was, with this, the first-year election competition came to an end.
