An hour earlier,
"Thank goodness... If not for your support, I might have lost the position, you know," Mariel said, looking at Rose, who was walking beside her with a happy smile hidden behind her mask. The relief in Mariel's voice was palpable, and her gratitude seemed to shimmer in the air around them.
"It's nothing, Aunt. I simply did what needed to be done. You don't need to be so dramatic," Rose remarked, her tone light but firm. Mariel, however, shook her head, her expression serious as she replied,
"You didn't see him, but I was sure he was going to cause a ruckus, if not solved verbally."
"Him?" Rose's curiosity was piqued.
"Asher Eli," Mariel answered, her voice lowering as if she were speaking a forbidden name.
"Where is he?" Rose asked, a frown creasing her brow.
"I told him to wait outside, but it seems he couldn't stay in one place... haha," Mariel chuckled, but her laughter was strained when she couldn't find anyone at the door, revealing her underlying worry.
Rose's expression turned even more serious, "T-That's not funny, Aunt!"
"Hmm? What happened?" Mariel asked, noticing the change in Rose's demeanour.
"Sigh. You know when Eli fought Father, he constantly asked for my brother, right?" Rose said, and that was enough for Mariel to understand the gravity of the situation.
'Shit! So he came here for that boy!' Mariel screamed inwardly and said, "We need to find him before he does anything."
"Yes..." Rose nodded, preparing to search for Eli when she noticed Luna, her little sister, hurrying across the floor towards her room.
"Hmm? Why is she here?" Rose frowned. Even Mariel frowned, seeing her friend's daughter rushing into a room.
"Did something happen?" Mariel asked, and Rose shrugged, unsure of the answer. They decided to walk towards Luna's room first, curiosity and concern driving their steps.
Just as they stood before the room, they heard kissing sounds, shocking both Mariel and Rose to the core. The realization that something intimate was happening behind the door left them momentarily paralyzed.
All they wanted now was to barge in and stop whoever was trying to fool the innocent girl.
"Is it Alexander?" Rose frowned, her curiosity and protectiveness increasing. She entered her own room, which was connected to Luna's, hoping to find answers.
"A-Are we doing this?" Mariel asked hesitantly. As much as she wanted to stop whatever Luna was doing with someone, she did respect privacy... right?
Rose looked at Mariel as if she had heard something incomprehensible. "You are saying that?" she asked, astonished. Rose could clearly remember that fateful day when Mariel barged into her room without hesitation, and even worse, Eli had seen her almost naked because of Mariel.
Just remembering that day still made her angry as she glared at Mariel, who simply averted her eyes, unable to meet Rose's glare.
Then Rose slowly opened the door connecting her and Luna's rooms. Not fully, but enough for them to hear and see what was happening inside.
When they saw what was happening, their eyes couldn't help but widen, especially Mariel's, when she saw Luna kissing her love's chest. The scene was both shocking and intimate, filled with a raw intensity that made Mariel's heart race.
She almost released her killing intent but was stopped by Rose, who was frowning at her, trying to keep the situation under control.
"I-I am sorry..." Mariel awkwardly said. Rose wasn't aware of Mariel's relationship with Eli, so Rose thought she was trying to kill Eli.
"I never thought she was into him..." Rose mumbled. She always thought her little sister was into Alexander, but looking at Luna's lustful gaze towards Eli, she could only sigh... because this man was far more dangerous than Alexander.
Rose thought they should leave since Eli was with Luna, so there was no need to search further..... But then something bugged her, 'Why was she so pale when she came?' she thought, her mind racing with possibilities.
Rose's expression started to frown as she thought, 'D-Did he blackmail her?' But seeing Luna, she could feel that she was also enjoying it. The conflicting emotions on Luna's face were confusing, making it hard to determine the truth.
Shaking off those thoughts, she decided to leave them and confront her later. However,
"So he likes that..." Mariel was taking notes.... Not metaphorically; she was literally taking notes, her pen scratching against the paper with fervour.
"Aunt?" Rose had an indescribable expression, a mix of disbelief and exasperation.
"H-Huh? Ahem... I-It's just for my... daughters. Yes, my daughters asked me," Mariel stammered, a slight red hue appearing on her cheeks as she tried to cover her embarrassment.
"Sigh," Rose sighed, thinking her aunt's daughters were starting to act like perverts and stalkers. Just as she decided to pull her aunt away,
"Walk out that door... and you'll walk out of my heart!"
Hearing that, both Mariel and Rose flinched and looked at the unfolding drama. They thought they were going to see a romantic scene where a princess was forced to give up her love, but,
"I... I... am.... Au... Aur... Aurora...."
When they heard that, they couldn't believe what was happening. The revelation was shocking and surreal, like something out of a twisted fairy tale.
Mariel clutched Rose's hand, fearing she might storm inside and shout at Luna for what she was saying. The tension in her grip conveyed her confusion and alarm.
Even Rose couldn't help but be bewildered by the situation. 'A-Aurora? What is she talking about?' she wondered, her mind spinning.
They thought Luna was playing with Eli. However, as they continued to hear her story,
The story of Aurora's past, which was well-known by Mariel, and...
The story of Aurora's suffering in the castle, which was well-known by Rose, began to unfold.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
'Drip, Drip'
Tears dripped from their eyes as they listened. They never... no one would believe this outrageous thing. The emotional weight of the revelation was overwhelming, hitting them like a tidal wave.
As they continued to listen, they felt their hearts wrench with pain. It wasn't just about Luna or Aurora... it was about a mother who had taken over her child's body.
The idea was horrifying, a nightmare that no mother should ever endure.
Mariel's body trembled with a mix of anger, fear, and loss.... She never thought her friend was still alive, hidden in such a tragic way.
Without a second thought, she pushed the door open quickly,
"Thud"
And the next thing she did was hug her friend tightly as if she might run away from her again. The embrace was fierce, filled with years of unspoken emotions.
Rose followed suit and hugged them as well. Though the reunion was not ideal, for Mariel and Rose it was something they wished for from the depth of their heart.
Eli simply smiled, his eyes reflecting warmth and understanding as he embraced Mariel, Luna and Rose, his arms encircling them in a comforting embrace.
