Legacy of the Dark Sage

Chapter 1167 Bold Move (1)

Passing through the gate leading to the Regis Terram of the Human plane was a strange yet exhilarating experience for Cyneah. Because she could only see the lights coming from beings or condensed magic energies, the path that connected the gate of the terram in the Dragon plane's side to the Human plane's side appeared like a kaleidoscopic room of abstract, colorful magic energies.

Being abstract in form yet appearing like a kaleidoscope was the strange bit, but the picture it painted was something only Cyneah could see.

Contrary to Cyneah's delight, Jared felt like he was passing through a long hallway with gravity weighing down on him several times. It even took everything in him to prevent himself from stopping and throwing up his meal.

Fortunately, Kyran noticed this and immediately spread his Void magic energy to protect them. He belatedly remembered that his family only managed to pass through the gates with the assistance of his Servants. The likely reason for this was that the Void had already altered their innate magic, giving them a certain level of immunity to spaces governed by it.

"Gah!" Jared held back a choke as he straightened his back and breathed out. "I thought I was going to die!"

"Sorry, Uncle, I forgot Gael and others assisted your passage through this space."

"It's fine, it's fine," Jared waved his hand while chuckling. "I was exaggerating, but seriously, how can you leave me unprotected when you remembered to do that to my lovely niece-in-law."

Only then did Kyran realize that Cyneah had no problem traversing the space. He looked at her in confusion and was about to say something, but she beat him and said with a similarly perplexed expression, "Kyran's not protecting me, though, uncle-in-law."

Kyran's heart skipped a beat after hearing how Cyneah addressed his uncle. Although their family had already agreed to have their matrimony as soon as the Grand Gathering concluded, he felt overwhelmed by how she accepted and adapted to the situation more quickly and even naturally.

He was not complaining. It was just that he was not used to experiencing an overwhelming emotion that filled him each time he was reminded that she would soon become part of his family.

He might have acted atrocious— to the point that one would cringe— each time he called her his mistress or his important person. However, having him act like that differed from being on the receiving end. He always felt amused seeing Cyneah's flustered reaction whenever he called her his or his mistress. But now, he was the one feeling flustered.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

"Oh? Then how...?" Jared turned just in time to see his nephew's usually indifferent expression contort slightly. Even his cheeks were slightly red up to his ears.

Seeing this, Jared immediately knew why Kyran looked like that, and his smile turned unusually broad as he teased, "What's wrong, nephew? Your face is unusually red. Oh? Wait, even your ears? That's rare. Are you that happy that my niece-in-law called me uncle-in-law?

That's not good. How happy would you feel if she called Cade or Rin, father-in-law and mother-in-law? How about when she called you 'husband'? You won't end up getting a heart attack, right?"

Kyran's expression instantly darkened as he looked at his uncle and said with a deadpan tone, "Uncle, please don't make me forget that you are my father's brother."

Jared flinched at his nephew's cold voice and smiled uneasily. "Saying that while calling me uncle, you cheeky brat. I did not raise you to be like that."

"I don't remember you raising me, Uncle."

"What? Did I not give you the best gifts possible during your birthdays?"

"That counts as raising me?"

"You ungrateful brat! Was it Nolan? It is his influence, is it not? My sister-in-law's brother has corrupted my nephew!"

"..."

Cyneah chuckled at their banter and said, "Speaking of Uncle Nolan, will we meet him as well?"

Kyran smiled inwardly while looking at her. He had noticed it before, but she had a way of shifting the point of conversation to lighten the mood.

"Maybe," he answered. "Now that he is the Human plane's Sovereign, he will notice our presence once we leave the terram."

"Oi," Jared frowned at them. "You two are no fun to tease. Niece-in-law, this is one of the rare moments we can make fun of my nephew, yet you're not even helping me out!"

Cyneah only chuckled in response.

However, Kyran knew better. She did not go along with his uncle's teasing because she was a little envious. He knew she was still hung up because she could not see and, thus, could not properly see the expressions of people around her.

"You are too nice, niece-in-law," Jared sighed and decided to drop the idea of teasing his nephew. He stopped because, from her faint laugh, he realized that she was trying to suppress her real emotions. Belatedly, he realized his mistake but did not want her to notice that was why he played it cool. "You have to make sure to grasp my nephew's weakness so you can place a proper leash on him!"

"...Is she your blood relative, or am I?"

"Oh? Are you now jealous that I am more fond of my niece-in-law? You ungrateful brat, return my prized creation!"

Even without saying which prized creation Jared was talking about, Kyran knew he was talking about the space pouch he received from him on his eighteenth birthday.

Back then, Kyran was genuinely amazed at the capacity of the pouch and how it could preserve items for a long time. To be honest, there were still a few of the food rations that his family prepared for him when they forced him to leave the estate on the first day his Void magic was revealed. They were still in good condition even after all the years that passed.

Now that he thought of it, when was the last time he sorted the things he put in his pouch?

Kyran inwardly scratched his head and decided to do it when they returned.

"Prized creation?" Cyneah asked in curiosity.

"It is a space storage pouch created with the combination of Alchemy and Array!" Jared replied proudly while slamming a fist to his chest. "Speaking of which, I'll make you something similar, niece-in-law. It will be my surprise wedding gift."

"O-Okay, thank you..."

"..."

Kyran was speechless.

How could you call a gift a surprise if you already confirmed what it was to the person who would gift it?

The trio continued traversing the space leading to the Human plane's Regis Terram while having an idle chat.

After almost an hour, they finally reached the other end and exited the gate, entering the Human plane's Regis Terram.

Kyran expected their journey to take some time, but he was surprised it took them that long. He wondered if it was normal and was about to ask his uncle. But the latter was busy stretching and complaining about how exhausting it was to travel between two realms, so he decided not to ask.

Judging from his uncle's behavior, the journey really took that much time.

"Are you okay?" Kyran asked Cyneah.

Cyneah looked up and nodded, "Yes."

"The energy back then... is your body alright? I'm sorry I did not put up a barrier when we entered the gate."

"I'm really okay," she replied with a smile. "None of the magic energies there entered my body."

The reason Kyran was worried about Cyneah was because of the incident that happened way back when his Void magic energy entered her system. Since she did not have a magic core, she could not filter out the magic energies that entered her body. While she had no trouble with raw magic energies entering her body, it was different with the Void. That was how she ended up in a coma-like state for days.

"Besides, I will not get infected again since you know what is serving as my magic core."

Cyneah seemed to have realized Kyran's concern and reminded him that the mirror was acting as a magic core.

"...Right."

Kyran admitted forgetting about the mirror's function for a second but was relieved that Cyneah would not suffer around his magic energy again. Of course, he knew the mirror serving as her magic core was only a temporary fix and planned to find a permanent fix soon. While he was at it, he would also find a way to restore her sight.

"Alright," Jared clapped his hands to get their attention. "Why don't you two lovebirds go home and rest while I contact the Conclave?"

The two agreed while ignoring Jared's subtle teasing.

"Ack, you two are really no fun," he complained as they left the Regis Terram.

The Regis family members, who stayed behind to manage the estate while most of their combat force went to the Higher Realm, greeted them excitedly.

They were incredibly excited that their young master had returned and even brought the young mistress. For the past few years, they had only been hearing about the latter, and now that they were meeting her in person, they were thrilled.

Jared left Kyran and Cyneah with the others to contact the Conclave.

The communication devices Kyran gave them during the war in the Human plane were enhanced to allow them to contact the other clans and forces more efficiently. Distance was not even a problem.

On the other hand, a lone person who noticed their arrival immediately descended on the Regis Estate.

This person was none other than Nolan.

"So you do remember your home, f*cking brat."

"Uncle Nolan, how have you been?"

Nolan looked at Cyneah, and his eyes almost popped out of their sockets.

"F*ck, how did you grow so much in over three years?"
