Chapter 156 The Battle.
_yeahhhh!_
The roars of the crowd echoed throughout the arena.
People from the Gilgamesh household filled the seats, waiting for the show they were promised by their queen.
All that they could see was a single Uruk warrior, dressed in their traditional outfit, with a spear, helmet and shield.
Her opponent was nowhere to be found.
"Did you sleep well? You look a bit tired." Asked Artoria, rubbing her finger on Ha Joon's cheeks to make sure he was doing all right.
They were all seated on the same side, Artoria, Ha Joon, Gilgamesh, Sinex, and Yukio.
"I'm fine... Just a tad bit tired..."
"Why?"
"I wonder..." Ha Joon gave her the side eye, "Maybe because someone managed to pick a fight with a demi god."
Artoria glared, "She picked a fight with me, have faith in your wife".
"Tsk." Ha Joon turned his gaze to the arena.
'I'm just glad Gilgamesh isn't the one doing the fight herself. The Gilgamesh I read in books back in my world was a male, a strong arrogant male, I'm not surprised this gilgamesh is female, but what I am surprised about is that she agreed to a duel.'
Hjs eyes widened as a thought occurred to him, 'Who did Artoria make represent Camelot?'
Right on the cue, the people seated in the arena started cheering.
From the opened gates, Lyra walked out, unimpressed by her surroundings but she didn't seem to clear too much.
"You chose the great white dragon to fight for you? You're quite bold, Queen Artoria." Gilgamesh voiced out from where she was seated, a calm look on her face.
Artoria responded with a smile, "Don't act like you didn't pick the best warrior in your army, Queen Gilgamesh."
A spark connected between them, and it wasn't that of good intention.
Ha Joon being in the middle of their nagging, sighed, shaking his head a bit.
Meanwhile, in the arena.
"You must be my opponent." The Uruk female author spoke.
Lyra, being the woman that she was, immediately gave a disgusted look.
"Uhn?! Who gave you the right to speak to me? We came here to duel, let's get it over with. Tsk!" She clicked her tongue before looking to the side, "I swear, if not for my Master, I wouldn't have to deal with a Uruk monkey."
The Uruk warrior was a bit confused, that soon turned to anger as she slashed her spear to the side.
"It would seem I misjudged you, you're not one with the heart of a warrior." Explore more adventures at empire
Lyra glared at her as if looking at a pile of poop.
"If that is the case, I do not have to treat you as such... Come.. let us battle."
Lyra covered her mouth, "Urrrgh....I could puke right now...."
She looked up at the platform, meeting Ha Joon's eyes as if using that as a means of comfort.
Ha Joon returned the stare, urging her to not show off her nasty side in front of Gilgamesh.
Lyra's eyes bubbled up, knowing damn well she couldn't abide by his words.
Baam!
Suddenly, the warrior made her first attack. Launching a power spear thrust towards Lyra.
"Uhn?!"
Now Lyra was more pissed than disgusted.
Before the blade of the spear could connect to her face, she grabbed it, allowing the warrior's body to remain in mid air due to how strong Lyra was.
"Is patience something you lack, or are you just looking to die sooner?" Lyra asked.
The warrior was shocked. Hell, half of the arena had the same shocked expression.
Even as Lyra kept both the spear and the warrior up in mid air, the spark of lightning the spear was radiating was still destroying the ground around them.
It was simple.
Every warrior in Urek was strong, so strong, only 10 warriors could take on 1000 soldiers.
And yet, this woman, Lyra, just caught one of their attacks like it was nothing.
"Go on....answer me?"
Lyra released her grip on the spear.
Boom!
Instantly, she kicked the warrior as the side, shattering her ribs before she went flying.
Like a rag doll, the warrior's body tumbled against the ground before crashing onto the wall of the arena.
_Silence_
One of Urek's greatest warriors just got defeated in less than a min.
Not a single word left the audience's mouth.
"Tsk! Can't believe I touched a Uruk monkey... I need to go touch my master to get rid of this stench."
Lyra spat as she began to walk away.
The battle had been concluded. Camelot won.
Gilgamesh on the other hand, was definitely pissed and Ha Joon could tell.
"Hey, Pretty boy." Gilgamesh called out to Ha Joon.
Ha Joon gave the side eye.
"I apologise for the disgrace my people displayed before. Believe me I feel embarrassed right now."
"Eh? No it's not..."
"It's utterly unacceptable."
This time Gilgamesh stood up, and leaped down from the platform.
Landing right in front of the fallen warrior, who was still struggling to stand to her feet.
Looking down at the warrior with rage, Gilgamesh uttered, "Stand up".
Disobedience was not an option. Many warriors in Uruk knew this. No one would dare disobey the Queen Gilgamesh, not if they wanted to end up dead.
With her body shaking, the warrior still stood to her feet. Rising in front of her master.
Pheww!
It happened so fast.
Gilgamesh raised her leg and sent a powerful boot kick.
Luckily for the warrior, she fell to the ground and only witnessed Gilgamesh's leg connect to the wall, and leave a huge hole there.
The warrior was now terrified, sweating bullets as she looked to the ground.
"Hey... Why did you dodge just now?" Gilgamesh's pupil has gone tiny, her eyes widened.
"Do you understand the embarrassment you've caused me? The opportunity you just let slip between my fingers? Hey... Answer, are you mocking me? Do you believe I could not kill you if you messed up or acted stupid? Answer me.... Why are you silent? That man up there witnessed the whole thing, how am I to explain to him that I am capable of claiming him if my strongest warrior was down in less than a sec."
Gilgamesh lowered her leg, grabbing the warrior by the hair and raising her up...
"Do you have no shame? Why torment me with your uselessness. How can you be in Uruk and so weak. I need to teach you a lesson, one that will never let you lose a battle again, not in such a cowardly manner... Go....take up your weapon. Now."
Ha Joon couldn't help chuckle nervously, watching Gilgamesh bully her own soldier was something he never expected to see. If anything, it was something Mordred would do.
"This is going to be a long visit." He sighed.
....
After a few minutes, the battle came to an end.
The arena had settled into a tense silence after Gilgamesh's brutal display.
She stood tall in the center, her piercing gaze sweeping over the crowd, daring anyone to question her authority or the harsh lesson she had just taught.
The once-roaring crowd had been reduced to whispers, no one willing to comment on the unexpected spectacle.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
On the balcony, Artoria shot Ha Joon a sidelong glance. "Perhaps we underestimated Gilgamesh's... passion."
Ha Joon gave a weary smile, "I thought I'd seen all types of leadership, but she has her own unique brand of... motivation."
Gilgamesh returned to her seat, her imposing figure only softened slightly by the victorious gleam in her eyes.
She glanced back at Ha Joon, a faint smirk pulling at her lips. "Do you see now, pretty boy? This is the strength of Uruk—the loyalty of my people, earned through fear and respect."
Ha Joon met her gaze steadily. "Respect through strength, I understand. But it's also something that must be reciprocated, or it crumbles quickly."
Gilgamesh chuckled, clearly unbothered. "You're bold, aren't you? I enjoy that. But we'll see whose methods stand the test of time."
Artoria, unamused, leaned closer to Ha Joon. "Be cautious. People like her... don't often respect subtlety."
As the attendants began clearing the arena, Gilgamesh's voice rang out again, catching everyone's attention. "Today's challenge is concluded, but this is only a taste of what I have planned. Tomorrow, another contest will await you—a true test of loyalty and strength."
Ha Joon sighed inwardly, already envisioning another long day.
Artoria placed a gentle hand on his arm, a subtle reminder that he wasn't alone in this strange power struggle. With a faint smile, he squeezed her hand in return, grounding himself. They'd face whatever came next together, even if that meant dealing with Gilgamesh's relentless games.
This was only the beginning.
