Chapter 83 Unreasonable Opposition

Darius smirked but stayed silent this time, knowing better than to provoke both Ragnar and Selene at once.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

Ragnar growled, "Gather your gear. We leave now."

The roads leading to No Man's Wasteland were chaotic. Streams of players rushed toward the dungeon from all directions, filling the air with chatter.

A group of mid-level players, clad in mismatched gear, huddled together as they walked. One of them, a warrior with a chipped sword, spoke up. "You think it's true? The fruit of sin? What does it even do?"

A ranger with braided hair and a bow slung over her shoulder replied, "Who cares? It's gotta be valuable if it's causing this much chaos. Even if we don't get it, the loot's probably insane."

Further ahead, a group of high-level players stood by the roadside, exuding confidence. Their leader, a man with a glowing greatsword strapped to his back, laughed loudly as he addressed his party. "If anyone gets in our way, we'll mow them down. No one's touching that fruit but us."

As word of the dungeon and the fruit continued to spread, the anticipation among players only grew. It was clear that the dungeon would become a battleground unlike any the game had seen before.

For now, the race was on—and the clock was ticking.

The morning light filtered through the curtains, casting soft beams across the living room. Sophia sat on the worn couch, staring at the tray of food she had prepared for August.

Her hands fidgeted slightly as the silence of the house settled over her. It was Friday, and her brother had been in the game for over two days.

He entered Ender's Light on Tuesday night and today was Friday.

Walking up the stairs, she carried the tray carefully, pausing in front of August's room.

The door was closed, and the sign still hung there in bold letters: "In Game – Do Not Disturb."

She sighed, staring at the sign with a mixture of frustration and worry. "August, you've never stayed in the game this long before," she whispered, though she knew he couldn't hear her. She lingered for a moment, then turned away with a heavy heart.

Sophia set the tray down on the dining table and poured herself a glass of orange juice. The clinking of the glass against the counter echoed through the empty kitchen.

As she sipped, her mind wandered to the days when her brother used to join her for breakfast, even if just for a rushed meal before work.

She missed those moments.

Shaking her head, she pushed the thoughts away and focused on the time. 7:30 AM. School started soon, and she didn't want to be late. After finishing her juice, she hurried upstairs to change into her uniform.

Just as she was fastening the last button on her shirt, August's phone rang sharply, breaking the quiet.

Sophia froze for a moment before hurrying downstairs to grab the receiver. She checked the number displayed on the screen—it was the same one that had been calling for the past two days.

Her brow furrowed. It was clear they weren't going to stop. Despite her hesitation, she decided not to answer. "I can't mess with Big Brother's business. I'll let him know about it when he logs out of the game," she muttered.

Grabbing her bag, Sophia glanced one last time at the kitchen and August's untouched food.

A pang of sadness hit her, but she squared her shoulders. He was probably fine, she told herself. He always was. Still, the worry gnawed at her as she stepped outside and closed the door behind her.

...

...

The 64th floor of the Ancient Swordking's Dungeon was a chaotic battlefield.

August and his party—Aria, Gareth, Viora, Torin, and Drask—had come a long way.

They looked quite battered like their characters were experiencing some sort of fatigue but it was more evident in August.

The floors they had traversed revealed fragmented memories of the Swordking's tragic life, weaving a tale of loss, revenge, and betrayal.

They had met a few more key characters in the Swordking's life.

Yet, despite the eerie allure of the dungeon's past, the present demanded their full attention.

Currently, the battle was not against the dungeon's monsters but another group of players—six members of the Venomfang Guild.

Their leader, Hakar (Level 36), stood like a menacing titan with gleaming golden brown armor.

His party comprised well-equipped players, all at or above Level 33. The confrontation began when this party from Venomfang demanded that August's group relinquish all the loot they had collected on this floor.

"Drop the loot and walk away, or we'll take it from your corpses," Hakar snarled as his blade ignited with purple energy.

Gareth stepped forward with his broadsword resting heavily on his shoulder. "Why don't you try? Let's see who walks away."

Hakar didn't waste time on more words. He raised his weapon and charged.

The battle erupted in an instant.

Aria was the first to act, summoning her Blazing Sphere. A massive orb of fire materialized between her hands before hurling toward the Venomfang Mage.

The mage countered with Frost Barrier and upon collision, a fiery explosion swept across the surroundings, creating a cloud of steam.

Torin crouched at the back and released a flurry of arrows.

His precise shots found their marks in the armor gaps of the Venomfang Ranger who snarled and retaliated with an arrow imbued with poison. Torin barely rolled out of the way in time.

"Persistent little bastards," Drask growled while swinging his berserker axe through the air with wild abandon.

His attacks met the shield of the Venomfang Warrior causing the clash of steel to echo through the cavern.

Amid the chaos, August darted through the battlefield like a shadow. His Dash skill allowed him to evade strikes with precision. He targeted the Venomfang Assassin, whose dual daggers gleamed with a venomous green aura.

The assassin recoiled but quickly retaliated with Shadow Slice aiming for August's ribs. He sidestepped the attack, slashing upward in a counterstrike.

"Stay still, damn you!"
