Chapter 67 Cloak Of Echoes

August landed on the other side of the portal, battered but alive, as the captives looked on in awe.
The rescued captives immediately surrounded August at the base of the Mountainous Bluffs with looks of relief and gratitude.
The little girl from earlier ran up to him with tears streaming down her cheeks.
"Thank you, mister!" she cried while throwing her arms around his waist.
Her older brother stepped forward with a solemn expression and bowed. "We owe you our lives. Without you, we wouldn't have made it out of there."
August ruffled the girl's hair gently. "It's alright, kiddo. Just make sure you stay safe from now on, okay?"
The boy straightened up with a firm look. "If there's anything we can ever do for you, anything at all, just let us know."
Another woman, an older merchant who had been among the captives, stepped forward and bowed slightly to August in appreciation.
"Feel free to visit my shop anytime."

August glanced at the notification with a look of satisfaction.
The little girl tugged at his sleeve again. "Will we see you again?"
August crouched down to her level, smiling. "Maybe. But only if you promise to be good and stay safe, alright?"
She nodded fervently, wrapping her arms around him for another hug before pulling back. Her older brother called her over, and the captives began to scatter, each heading toward their own paths.
As August watched them go, he let out a deep sigh. His body finally relaxed after the harrowing ordeal. "Well, that's one thing done," he muttered to himself.
But before he could leave, a new notification appeared.
---
[ System Notification: ]
[ Attention: Aleman and the Iron Fang thieves are now Ironclad Enemies. Members of the Iron Fangs will attack Aleman on sight. ]
---
August groaned. "Fantastic. Just what I needed," he muttered sarcastically.
Adjusting his gear, he turned his gaze toward the horizon. The majestic spires of the Temple of Echoes glimmered faintly in the distance. It was time to complete the second half of his mission.
---
The trek to the temple was peaceful compared to the chaos of the Mountainous Bluffs.
Rolling fields of green surrounded him, dotted with crystalline flowers that shimmered in the sunlight. Birds with plumage of gold and silver flitted between the trees, letting out melodic calls that soothed his nerves.
As he neared the temple, he couldn't help but marvel at its grandeur. The ivory columns gleamed like polished bone, etched with glowing runes that pulsed with faint light.
A serene pool reflected the temple's spires. Its surface was disturbed only by the occasional ripple of a gentle breeze.
"Fancy place," August muttered as he climbed the final set of marble steps.
---
The interior of the Temple of Echoes was no less awe-inspiring. The polished floors gleamed like liquid silver, and intricate mosaics depicting mythical figures adorned the walls.
White-robed attendants moved silently through the space. Their presence felt almost ethereal.
At the far end of the hall sat the Priestess of Echoes. Draped in pristine white robes that shimmered faintly. She exuded an aura of calm authority.
Half her face was obscured by a delicate white veil, but the visible part revealed an otherworldly beauty. Her skin was smooth like butter. Her eyes looked like they had been carved by a godly artist of creation... There was no doubt that underneath the white veil was a beauty like no other.
Above her head floated a golden level indicator: Lv. 90
"Level 90?" August whispered as his eyes widened. "What is someone like her doing sitting in a temple instead of taking on the toughest bosses in the game?"
One of the attendants approached, bowing slightly. "The Priestess of Echoes does not step foot into unholy places. It is forbidden," she explained softly, as if sensing his thoughts.
The Priestess's locked onto August with a calm yet piercing gaze. "Step forward, Aleman," her voice carried both warmth and command.
It was smooth like milk and honey... Extremely soothing to the senses.
August approached. "I've brought the relics as requested," he voiced before retrieving them from his inventory.
The relics hovered before her as she raised a hand. Each one glowed with brilliant light before vanishing into golden motes.

"You have done well, Aleman," the Priestess said with a faint smile. "The temple is in your debt."
August scratched the back of his head, feeling slightly awkward. "Honestly, I'm just glad I made it out alive." Find your next adventure on empire
Her smile deepened, though there was a touch of sadness in her eyes. "The path of righteousness is never easy, but it is always worth it."
As August turned to leave, she called out again with a grave tone. "Wait."
He paused, looking back.
"I sense a talisman in your possession. A letter from Sir Dumblore," she said.
August frowned, retrieving the blank letter from his inventory. "You mean this?"
The Priestess nodded. "Yes. The time draws near. Guard it well, Aleman. Its purpose will soon be revealed."
"What does that mean?" he questioned with curiosity creeping into his voice.
She shook her head gently. "Some truths must unfold in their own time. Be vigilant, for darkness stirs."
With that cryptic warning, an attendant stepped forward, bowing deeply. "Please, this way," she voiced while ushering him toward the exit.
As August stepped into the fading sunlight, he took a deep breath. The serene beauty of the temple now felt tinged with foreboding.
"Darkness stirs, huh?" he muttered before tucking the letter back into his inventory. "Guess I'll find out soon enough."
...
...
August walked through the quiet path leading back to the bustling streets of Tagharuim.
The golden hues of the setting sun painted the horizon as he decided to check his player status. With a swipe of his hand, the familiar glowing interface appeared before him.

A new system notification flashed across his interface.
---

August frowned while scrolling through the details.
"Damn... Hard decisions," he muttered.
The Cloak of Echoes was undeniably powerful. The speed boost alone could be a game-changer, not to mention the leveling system that promised even more perks.
But giving up the Shadow Cloak meant losing the Shadow Dance ability—one of his most reliable skills.
He tapped on the Cloak of Echoes interface, examining its enthralling design. The shimmering silver fabric looked ethereal, almost translucent, with glowing runes along the hem.
In contrast, the Shadow Cloak remained dark and menacing. Its smoky aura almost seemed alive.
"Do I want speed or stealth?" he asked himself. "Or maybe both?"
After a long sigh, he closed the Cloak of Echoes interface and decided to shelve the decision for now.
---
[ System Notification: You have chosen not to equip the Cloak of Echoes at this time. ]
---
Instead, he tapped on the Minor Health Amulet causing the glowing trinket to appear in his hand within the game interface. It was a small golden amulet with a pulsating red gem at its center.
"This one's a no-brainer," August said before tapping Equip.

August smiled. "That's more like it."
For a brief moment, he considered extracting the Minor Health Amulet to the real world.
An item like this could potentially sell for millions—if not more. But after a moment of thought, he shook his head.
"Not this time," he murmured. "I'll need every advantage I can get in here."
With his decisions made for now, August dismissed the interface and continued on his journey.
...
...
The streets of Tagharuim bustled with activity as players roamed about.
Merchants yelled out prices for wares displayed on colorful stalls, adventurers strolled by chatting about their latest exploits, and recruiters from various guilds stood on raised platforms advertising their groups.
August walked among the crowd, blending in as much as possible. He had been reflecting on his recent quest and contemplating his next move.
He had been in the game for over fourteen hours already which meant that seven hours had passed in the real world.
'It should be daytime already... But I'm quitting the factory work today, so I don't need to go in early,' August decided to remain in Enders Light for now.
His plan for today was to head to the factory, tell them he was quitting, and then talk to his friend Derrick briefly.
Just as August turned a corner, a group of players clad in dark crimson armor with dragon emblems emblazoned on their chests came into view.
"Wait a minute… isn't that Aleman?"
