Grand Voyage : Surviving on a Ghost Ship

Chapter 70 - Sacred Box

After a while, Yang Yi approached the spindle-shaped island's edge.

The damaged giant ship on the island was still about a kilometre away.

There, he discovered a large number of battle traces.

The ground was covered with overturned soil, fallen weeds, and even a few broken trees!

Although the trees were only about the thickness of a wrist, it wasn’t easy to break them.

He also found two broken swords, a shield with a hole, and a broken scythe, but they had no salvage value.

Not far away in an open area, a large number of damaged arrows were piled up, likely collected after the battle.

"Did someone clean up the battlefield?" Yang Yi frowned.

It seemed to him that only players would do something like this.

Moreover, only if the players had defeated the werewolves could they have the chance to do this.

The three pits on the outskirts further confirmed this view.

They were about half a metre deep, just enough to bury a person.

It appeared that they had been buried, then dug up by something, and the bodies had been stolen.

Yang Yi carefully examined the traces, and it seemed that they had been dug out with hands or claws.

So, the perpetrator must have been a half-werewolf.

Their sense of smell was keen, and they were scavengers, not even letting shallowly buried corpses escape.

After reviewing the battle remains, Yang Yi was sure the players had defeated the werewolves. They had likely cleaned up the battlefield and buried their companions' bodies. Later, because of the infection with the rabid wolf disease, some of the players had turned into half-werewolves.

"But where are the werewolf bodies?" He pondered. "They couldn’t have done the same as Suna and taken the bodies with them, could they?"

Yang Yi was confused. He then rechecked the battlefield.

Although he didn’t find any werewolf bodies, he did find a thick and powerful finger, covered in grey fur and with sharp claws that were black and gleaming like metal.

【Name: Grey Werewolf’s Claw】

【Description: A claw left behind by a patient infected with the rabid wolf disease, fully transformed into a werewolf. 】

Yang Yi froze after reading the information.

Because it only showed information about the claw, not the individual werewolf. It was only if the grey werewolf was still alive and had left behind a finger that such information would appear.

Yang Yi put the finger in his inventory, feeling that things had become even more mysterious.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

He looked towards the distant giant ship. Inside, there should be more information and clues. However, Yang Yi still felt that the players had won, or at least had driven back the werewolves!

He checked the time and realised there were still six hours before nightfall, so he had plenty of time. His stamina was at 88, and his other stats were all full, so he could continue exploring.

With that, he headed towards the giant ship.

From there, Yang Yi had to be extremely alert, prepared to deal with potential enemies at any time, and ready to use his Third Eye, magic potions, and even spells.

At 500 metres away from the giant ship, the trees could no longer obscure the sight.

The vessel was only half intact, with its hull mottled and covered in moss, vines, and other vegetation. Its edge had rusted metal patterns, exuding an ancient and distant aura.

Beside it, there was a large cannon that had been toppled, about the height of a person, its surface covered in dust and weeds — clearly no longer usable.

Yang Yi stopped in his tracks and used his Third Eye to scan the giant ship. However, he couldn’t use X-ray vision, so he wasn’t sure what was inside.

What he was certain of, though, was that the ship had been there for a long time — at least several decades, and maybe even a hundred years!

Within his Third Eye's view, Yang Yi noticed an unusual area. It was a patch of trees that had been felled. But when it came to logging, it didn’t make sense to start cutting from the centre of the island.

Moreover, the logs hadn’t been taken!

Yang Yi cautiously walked over.

He noticed the tree stumps had clean cuts, all chopped in one go, indicating that the tools used for felling the trees were extremely sharp. Additionally, the air was thick with a pungent odor.

Yang Yi had smelled this before.

Back in the spider’s lair, where human bodies had been dismembered, the place had been filled with a similar smell, almost like the stench left behind in a slaughterhouse.

The smell could only be caused by large amounts of fresh blood being spilled. So, not long before, there had likely been a massacre.

Yang Yi scanned his surroundings but didn’t find any bodies. Instead, he noticed traces of something having been dragged away, probably taken by some kind of creature.

Based on the direction of the drag marks, it was highly likely that half-werewolves were involved — they seemed to have a strong inclination towards consuming corpses.

However, one drag mark was different from the others! It was a set of dark brown shoeprints, stained with blood, leading to the giant ship.

Yang Yi stepped forwards and compared the size of his own foot with the prints. “The footprint is small, like a pair of sneakers. It’s likely a woman’s,” he speculated.

He studied the mark further and noticed more details.

The bodies that had been dragged away appeared to be five, which matched the bones found at the half-werewolf camp. The half-werewolves were probably survivors of the massacre.

Coincidentally, they had all been infected with the rabid wolf disease, quickly transformed, and then returned to drag away the bodies...

“Could it be that the monster responsible for this massacre had someone infected with Lycanthropy, who intentionally let them go?” Yang Yi speculated.

He searched the area but found no other traces, except for a finely crafted wooden box that had fallen to the ground, its lid slightly detached.

【Name: Sacred Box】

【Description: A blessed wooden box, only the holy army responsible for it knows what it contains. Very sturdy, nearly impossible to open from the inside.】

“No grade or type?” Yang Yi was surprised as he picked it up and examined it closely.

The box was entirely white, with intricate golden metallic patterns on its edges that resembled thorns, making it look both beautiful and delicate.

Both the inside and outside of the box’s lid were decorated with a picture of a man in a robe. He had a handsome face, his expression one of sorrow, his eyes covered by a cloth, with tears seeping from beneath, forming two tear streaks. He extended his right hand from his robe, holding a scale, while his left hand was hidden beneath the robe.

Yang Yi didn’t recognise the man, but he was certain it wasn't a human. The left arm hidden under the robe seemed unusually large, causing the robe to bulge out!

Of course, it could also be some kind of mutated person.

Who cares about that?

Yang Yi didn’t dwell on the box’s design and turned his attention to its interior.

It was a small, perfect cubic space, with equal length, width, and height, about 25 cm, too small to hold anything large.

On an impulse, Yang Yi leaned in and sniffed, detecting a faint fragrance. It smelled like a high-end perfume.

It meant the box hadn’t been empty; it had contained something before.

Given all the clues, Yang Yi speculated the Sacred Box was no ordinary item — it likely contained some sort of living creature!

The group of players on this island must have found the Sacred Box, and someone, driven by curiosity, opened it, releasing the creature inside and leading to the massacre.

It was Yang Yi’s theory!

He placed the Sacred Box into his inventory, but as soon as it entered, his greedy bag spat it out. Yang Yi tried three more times, and each time the bag rejected the box.

On the fourth attempt, even when he offered food, the bag refused to open.

“Strange…is the bag being picky?” Yang Yi muttered, confused, before just holding the box in his arms and heading towards the giant ship.

At this point, things were becoming clearer. The remaining clues could be found on the ship!
