Chapter 447 Loathsome Visitor
Since the division's situation has more or less stabilized, Shye focused on completing solo quests for the next two and a half weeks.
He already amassed a total of 8,000 points after three quests, however, he needed a whopping 40,000 contribution points in total to rank up to diamond.
There's still a long way to go.
During the said two and a half weeks, Shye took on one (A-) ranked quest and one (B) ranked one, rewarding him with a total of another 6,000 guild contribution points and 410 gold coins.
He would naturally prefer to take on two (A-) ranked ones, unfortunately, the first one took him almost two weeks to complete.
Hence, he had no choice but to take a (B) ranked quest that he could accomplish in a week or less than a week after completing the first one.
The Valenzia Rookie Adventurer Competition was coming up in a week and a half, after all.
After finishing the easy (B) ranked quest he chose as his second quest, Shye didn't dare take another one as he feared failing the system's mandatory quest for a silly reason, such as not returning to the city on time.
Hence, he decided to loiter around the guild for the next few days, hoping to gather information about the said yearly event.
Unbeknownst to him, he was already a hot topic within the headquarters as two days ago, the fact that he would be participating in the Valenzia Rookie Adventurer Competition as the Balkrow representative spread like wildfire.
Although lots of arrogant mithril and adamantite-ranked guildsmen merely sneered disdainfully in response to the news, the emerald and diamond-ranked adventurers felt rather excited.
Especially since Shye was one of the rumored favorites to win the entire event, reminding them of the fact that he once stood as the king of the region's entire batch of academy graduates.
The members of his guild wanted to chat with him about it, unfortunately, they were too shy to do so, thinking that they might disrupt his thoughts when all he was doing was mostly lazing around the division lounge like some random member.
Shye would've appreciated it if they did so, though, as he wanted to improve his social relations with them.
After all, he was partially grooming them for his personal benefit.
'Sigh…what a boring day. Probably better to return to the inn and think about the rewards system and the rewards preparation…'
Just when he was about to leave, however, a division member suddenly entered the door.
"Division Leader Crowley, someone from another guild is looking for you outside the headquarters."
Hearing his member's words, Shye's brows furrowed in confusion.
He hadn't toured the city much since he got here so he couldn't think of anyone who would personally know him.
'Who could it be?'
Following his division member towards the headquarters' main door, a familiar face greeted him.
"Heh, I heard that you've already been promoted to the main branch of your guild. I must say I'm rather impressed. However, the gap between us shall remain temporary as I will be reclaiming my rightful crown soon."
It was someone he didn't like, thus, Shye feigned ignorance.
"And who the hell are you?"
"You bastard…as arrogant as ever, I see. Although I know that you're merely feigning ignorance, I shall introduce myself early to your guildmates. To all you members of Raven's Blade, the name's Damien Martinez, the third son of the Martinez Adventurer Clan's current clan lord." Damien said with a prideful smirk.
Naturally, such a famous adventuring clan that was on par with Arthur's Vermillion Adventurer Clan would elicit shocked gasps and narrowed eyes from the Raven's Blade guildsmen.
The clan was famous for being ruthless to its enemies, though; hence, the lower-ranked ones felt slight anxiousness, especially those who were ill-informed about Shye and Damien's history.
"Ah, I see. Haven't heard of you."
If it was the previous Damien, he would've already lashed out in utter fury.
However, ever since the day of his defeat to Shye in the finals of the Adventurer Academy Competition, he learned the hard way that he and his clan weren't untouchable by commoners.
Unfortunately, due to his upbringing and the deep-seethed arrogance of his entire clan, Damien merely grew more experienced at causing trouble for others.
He didn't change for the better.
Not one bit.
"Heh, you might've narrowly defeated me at the Adventurer Academy Competition due to my inexperience, but there are no such weaknesses to exploit now. I've fully embraced my position in the clan, and they've spared no expense to help me reach my peak in just a year."
"Plus, I'm now part of the Divine Judgment Adventurer Guild, the top guild in the region. I have no idea what the guild master of a mere 16th-ranked guild promised you, but you must be very foolish to choose them over the number one. I must have truly overestimated your intelligence. Hahahaha!"
Hearing Damien's words, Shye merely sneered in disdain.
"That's it? You came here to boast about how you hugged your clan and your guild's golden thigh to catch up to me? Wow, what a prideful son of heaven you are." Shye retorted in a deadpan manner, bringing shame and anger to Damien's heart.
The guy almost lashed out in fury again.
If not for his better control over his emotions this time around, he would've already done so
"Heh, I just came here to check whether you're still as arrogant as before, and I'll check on you again once I've destroyed you in the Valenzia Rookie Adventurer Competition."
"Oh? Someone like you actually won in your city's qualifiers? Must've been one hell of an incompetent city."
"Good, just keep talking crap, you'll soon find out how helpless commoners with no background like you are once the rules for the competition have been announced."
Unknowingly fearing another sharp retort from Shye, Damien swiftly turned around and left in a "calm" manner.
However, he wasn't anywhere near as calm as he appeared on the surface.
'Shye Crowley…SHYE CROWLEY!! You'll pay…soon…"n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
