Chapter 77 The Next Arrangements.
The information broker is also in charge of moving their cameras into place to form their large spy network. Since the abolishment of the public surveillance system, spies can't get a free surveillance system anymore. They have to create theirs or take over those of other spies.
Taking over the systems of others is unfavorable nowadays because, unlike the easy hacking of ancient pasts, any clash for control of a surveillance system is a clash of abilities that usually leads to one or more deaths. So either they put in time and energy or they are willing to risk their lives. The choice is clear for most people.
This situation has made him very important. He is very difficult to kill, and he can put cameras in difficult-to-reach places. What he just pulled off is an example of why he is so important.
He is going to receive a report of Kelvin's mission soon, but he is not willing to take any chances. He and his partners want to know exactly what Kelvin is capable of, so they spied on him.
He received the report from the police force soon after. It was a report written by the liaison officer in charge of the case. This officer had a lot to say. He chuckled to himself in the car as he read it.
"He is crazy. He talks with invisible beings. It is not an act. He truly believes that there is someone always close to him that communicates with."
"We are sure of this based on the evaluation of our psychiatrist after I brought up the matter. The man stated that it was just mild scrizophernia and doesn't affect his judgment. But I believe that he is too unreliable. He is also paranoid because he pulled off his bulletproof even though he should have no reason to."
"We also tested to make sure that there was indeed no one besides him that he was talking to. After numerous tests, we can confirm that unless that person is invisible, intangible, doesn't breathe, and doesn't produce heat, then there is no one beside him."
The report was mostly about Kelvin's mental state because very little is known about his abilities. There was a part of the report about the tools he asked for, but most of it was about how Kelvin wasn't mentally stable.
He found that funny because he didn't care. He has seen too many such cases caused by the awakening of abilities. Mutations caused by abilities can be physical or mental. So what he cared about was Kelvin's capabilities.
He already has the answer to that question. The answer he got was from the surveillance of Kelvin, and it was good enough for him. What remains is for one of the other two to agree with him. With two of them in favor, Kelvin would be considered to have passed the test.
Mel, the one masquerading as his head of security called him. The earpiece attached to his ear pinged to notify him of the phone call. He tapped it twice to pick up the call.
Mel said, "He is good."
He nodded in agreement, "He is indeed good and he didn't cheat. Zain's death was not in vain."
Mel asked, "He has a complete metallic body. Isn't that similar to your ability? Won't it be redundant to allow him to pass?"
He smiled, "It doesn't matter if we are similar or not. What matters is that he has passed the test. We already tested him twice. All of these can't end as a waste of our time and Zain's life."
Mel sighed and said, "That's what Thorin said too. He said this boy has to replace Zain and do Zain's part or die trying."
His smile grew on his red face. It stretched the thick chitin carapace protecting him.
He said, "That makes two out of three. What say you?"
She replied, "There's nothing inherently bad about him. I just don't like repetition. You have my vote."
He nodded. "That's good to hear. I'll go ahead with the indoctrination."
Mel informed him with a tone of exasperation, "Be quick with it. We need the extra manpower. Thorin's pretty man about Zain's death. Says we need to put him to work quickly."
He shook his head in amusement. Then he asked her, "Where is Thorin, by the way?"
"He is off trying to recruit some hotshot."
"So the usual."
"Yeah. Its the usual."
He had to ask, "Isn't this metal claws guy good enough to warrant his attention?"
She replied, "You mean metal man. As for your question, he said that it was a strong beta ability but only a beta ability."Nôv(el)B\\jnn
"It is strong, though. What metal do you think it is?"
She replied after thinking, "Unknown. It looks like steel but behaves outside of the range of the properties of steel. It is harder, stronger, and tougher than steel. It should be at least hardened steel and could be a titanium alloy."
"Damn. That's some strong metal."
She said in agreement, "Indeed."
The two of them chatted some more before they put an end to the call. Then the information broker sent a message to Kelvin about the next arrangements.
Kelvin was in a good mood. Wrath was also in a good mood. The two of them had made the selection for the new hoverbike together and her now enjoying some free time without someone trying to kill him.
They had gone through a list of options and debated the merits and demerits over two hours before they finally settled on something that satisfied both of them. It was a hoverbike with aesthetics and value. It looked good and didn't tear through his pocket to afford.
It had cost him 400,000 dollars, which was 150,000 dollars more than the previous one, but this one also has a radar system, a bigger battery, and a stun gun as an inbuilt weapon. All in all, it is a great buy.
