Becoming Professor Moriarty’s Probability

Chapter 195: The Five Orange Pips

- Knock, knock, knock…

“Who is it?”

Several days had already passed since Adler was under protective custody in Lestrade’s home.

“Brother Adler~ I’ve brought you some food.”

“… Ah, it’s you.”

Adler, who was lying idly on the bed in Lestrade’s room playing word games with the system as usual, looked up with a bright smile as the inspector’s little sister entered the room.

“As always, thank  you…”

“… Ehehe.”

Adler then gently stroked her hair as she set the food down in front of his bed and whispered softly.

“It seems your elder sister is surprisingly good at cooking.”

“What?”

“This is good enough to be served in a restaurant.”

Leaning his head toward her, he muttered the words with an absent-minded look in his eyes.

“Uh, I cooked it though…?”

“Eh?”

“Until two days ago, it was my sister who cooked, but she cut her hand badly with a knife.”

“… Oh dear.”

“So now I’m cooking instead! Because I’m really good at it!”

Seizing the moment, the inspector’s sister began bragging with an excited expression.

“How commendable.”

“Ah. Hehe…”

“What’s your name?”

Seeing Adler smiling at her, she blushed and twisted her body as she answered.

“I-I’m Gina Lestrade…”

“… Ah, it’s Gina then.”n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

“Mmm.”

When Adler suddenly called her name, she momentarily lost her composure and gasped.

“Could you perhaps get me out of the house? It’s as if I’m under some kind of spell, I just can’t go out alone…?”

“W-W-Wh-Why? Uh, my sister told me not to take you out…”

“It’s because your sister hurt her hand while cooking for me, so I want to repay the favour…”

Adler gave her an innocent smile and asked for a favour.

“But my memory’s a bit shaky right now, you see? I don’t know the area very well.”

Losing your memory is quite convenient, isn’t it?

“So, I’d like to go shopping with you, Gina…”

Upon hearing his words, she briefly widened her eyes, a sinister smirk suddenly stretching her lips.

“If that’s the case… I should accompany you…”

… Good. It’s an escape.

How much of his memory has he lost? Did he forget basic knowledge too? If that’s the case…

Just as the mismatched intentions of the boy and girl were about to unfold,

“I’m sorry, but that won’t be necessary.”

A slightly gruff voice came from the firmly closed door.

“Your warm sentiments are enough for me.”

“Ah, sis.”

“You should go shopping.”

As the door opened, Inspector Lestrade, donned in her uniform and cap pressed down, appeared in the room. After a quick glance at her younger sister, the little girl bowed her head and turned toward the door.

“… Tch.”

With that, only the two of them were left in the house, now enveloped in silence.

“Have your memories started to return?”

“Ah, no. I’m still not sure…”

Amid that silence, as Lestrade tilted her head and gently asked, Adler hurriedly averted his gaze and spoke.

“B-By the way… were you a policeman perchance?”

“… I am currently serving as an inspector at the Metropolitan Police Service of London.”

“W-Wow, that’s impressive…!”

Adler suddenly explained, eyes twinkling as he acted like he genuinely did not know about that bit of info.

“But… don’t you think it would be tough to manage both police work and household chores at the same time?”

“So… I mean… should I work outside and earn some money?”

“Oh, that won’t be a problem.”

Hearing his hesitant words, Lestrade blushed and slightly twisted her body, just like her sister had done earlier.

“… After all, you were the homemaker from the beginning.”

“What?”

“I-I’ve always been the one earning money… and you took care of the house.”

Adler’s eyes began to waver hesitantly at her words.

“R-Really…?”

Just as he had lost half control of his being to Charlotte and could no longer run away from her, Adler had become unable to escape from Lestrade due to the marriage contract.

So far, he had managed to escape by catching her off guard, but now that Lestrade was patrolling around the house with firm determination to not let him escape, even that became impossible.

Thus, Adler began trying to feign memory loss to tempt Lestrade into circumventing the contract.

“Yes, it’s true.”

“Ah… haha.”

But Lestrade, who had for some reason become obsessed with keeping him confined in the house, was not fooled by his tricks.

“By the way.”

“…..?”

“… I’m off duty now.”

As Adler quietly resigned himself, Lestrade carefully moved forward and muttered.

“When we were dating, you always used to do it… won’t you do it now?”

… I’m gonna go insane.

At those words, Adler almost lost his composure but soon blushed slightly and wrapped his arms around her waist.

- Chu…

“… Mmm.”

As Adler gently kissed her lips, Inspector Gia Lestrade’s body twitched and she bit on her lip.

- Frpp…

An unknown amount of time passe don like that.

“… Thank you.”

With a blushing face slightly turned away, Lestrade murmured in a voice barely above a whisper while covering her mouth.

“T-T-The next is the cheek…”

- Pop…!

Carefully holding onto the hem of Adler’s shirt, she was about to thrust her blushing hot cheek towards him when… her eyes widened in vigilance and she jerked her head to the side.

- Crackle…!

The next moment, with superhuman speed, she reached out her hand to shatter the window and silently caught a barrage of projectiles that moved toward her in quick succession.

“… There seems to be a mosquito.”

- Clink…

“D-Do mosquitoes make a metallic sound these days…?”

“In any case, it’s merely a mosquito.”

Then, Lestrade, glancing out of the window with a murderous look in her eyes, hid something resembling a bullet behind her back and corrected Adler’s statement.

- Swoosh…

“Ah…”

Silently, she laid Adler back on the bed and covered him with a duvet.

“These days, mosquitoes are really becoming a nuisance.”

“I-Is that so…?”

“But don’t worry. Whether they are grey mosquitoes, black mosquitoes, or any other nasty little buggers, I will block them all.”

After whispering so into Adler’s ear, Lestrade looked down at Adler. Seeing him looking at her with a slightly frightened and wary gaze, she muttered again.

“Speaking of which.”

“F-From today on… I would like to start sleeping as we used to.”

Adler stared at her in silence for a moment, too stunned to speak.

“What do you mean by as we used to…”

“Sh-Sharing the same bed… covering with the same duvet… and sleeping while holding hands.”

“Ah…”

“Sh-Shall we try it? Not right away, but at least practice…”

At that moment, Lestrade, looking down at him with a rapidly pounding heart, was about to climb onto the bed where Adler was lying with trembling eyes when,

- Ding-dong…! Ding-dong…!

Suddenly, the sound of the doorbell began to resonate from the living room entrance.

“… Please wait a moment.”

“Ye-Yes…”

Adler who was watching from under the covers, with Lestrade already halfway into mounting him, trembled as he nodded slightly. Lestrade only sighed at the display before stepping out of the room.

And then, there was silence.

“Holmes. I’ve told you several times. Adler isn’t here…”

Amid that silence, Lestrade’s voice rang clearly before abruptly cutting off.

“Hey…”

“What’s going on?”

Curiously peering out, Adler began to ask questions towards the living room.

“Ah, it’s nothing. Just a package has arrived.”

“… A package?”

“Yes, and… what is this?”

Responding nonchalantly to his question, Lestrade then picked up something that was resting on top of the package, tilting her head curiously.

“… Orange seeds?”

After opening the envelope, she mumbled with a confused expression,

“What kind of person sends just five orange seeds in such an expensive envelope…”

- Bang…!!!

“…..!?”

But in the very next moment, Adler, who had been staring blankly into space, suddenly turned pale and dashed out of the room with all his might.

“Get down!!!!”

“Ah…?”

Desperately, he leapt on top of the inspector, embracing her tightly while black wings expanded from his back.

- Tick-tock, tick-tock…

“… Could it be?”

- Tick…!

A low, ominous ticking that had been echoing from the package suddenly resounded loudly as something inside it activated.

- Booooooooooooom…!!!!!

And the next moment,

With a tremendous roar, a pillar of flame erupted, shattering the inspector’s house and dyeing the London sky, which was gradually darkening, in a bloody red hue.

.

“… Ah.”

Meanwhile, at that time,

“Ah…?”

From a forest not far from the inspector’s house, where Celestia Moran had been eagerly waiting for a chance to snipe her, she began to wear a blank expression as she watched the towering flames rise high into the sky.

And it was the same for the members of the last ceasefire, who had been surrounding the inspector’s house in a relatively peaceful manner from multiple angles.

“”… Who the hell is responsible for this?””

On that very day, as those words simultaneously escaped all of their lips, not only London but the whole of the British Empire went into an uproar like no other.
