Chapter 392 – King of Forest
Ignoring the chat's usual antic, Max continued to find a body of water. That was where he guessed the Trolls were, and hopefully he could also find the Mandrake on his way there.
Finding it wasn't as easy as he thought. Even after a boring walk for 5 minutes, he couldn't even find a puddle, let alone a river or a lake.
"This is harder than I thought. Should I just find a tall tree and climb it to find the orc?" He asked the viewers, gritting his teeth in frustration.
— He forgot this is a magic game again
— Is there a wizard out there that climbs trees? I think only Breeze who thought like that
— Let me tell you something! Wizard fly, monkey climb!
"Monkey climb? Then I reject my humanity! I shall become a monkey!" Max exclaimed as he broke into a run, a wand that showed he was a wizard still in his left hand.
There was nothing stopping him. Was being a wizard meant a person could solve everything? No! That was just a fantasy!
In fact, wizards lacked a lot of things. For example, Breeze could only use 2 spells, and both of them were attacking magic and not something that he could use to fly.
They were useless in detection too.
Now, the question was…
"Would you mind watching me walking in boredom or follow me to climb a tree and find the troll so I can fight it and you guys enjoy it?"
It was just that simple.
But the chat made it difficult.
— I'd rather sleep
— Is that a threat?! Because I think so!
— He's holding our interest so he could climb a tree. Devil! He's heartless!
— Police! This guy is playing with my feelings. He's holding my interest hostage!
"You guys are crazy." Max commented, a grin formed on his face as he found the perfect tree to climb. "Then, let's return to being a monkey!"
Climbing a tree in VR was as easy as walking on the ground for Max, who was now used to it. He quickly grabbed the trunk and moved up like a real monkey.
Soon, he reached the branch where he could perch and look around without having any trees disturbing his sight. He took his time and surveyed the surroundings seriously.
His eyes could see the sea of trees, with only some spots on the ground visible. However, that was enough. He only needed to find blue colors among the spots he could see. Just a little blue, or maybe brown.
"Huh?"
Max exclaimed in surprise as the brown color suddenly appeared in front of his vision. It wasn't the ground– No, he didn't fall. This brown color suddenly just appeared in front of him. In the sky.
— Dodge!
— Jump!
— Don't just sit there like an idiot! Get away from the tree!
— He's fcked
Without hesitation, Max threw himself down. He used his hands to grab the trunks to slow down his fall, but that hurts like hell.
In just a few seconds, way faster than when he climbed up, he reached the ground. His hands were red and had blisters. Even now, it still aches. The pain he felt was real, and it was all his decision to trust the chat, so he had the right to complain to them.
"Okay, what the fuck, guys?"
— Look up
— The monkey almost got eaten by the lord of the forest lol
— Ssshhh!
— Heh… I offer my blood to Blood God in the past. But now… Blood God's pet is seeking yours!
— That sounds dangerous
Max couldn't agree more, so he looked up.
What he found above his head wasn't the Blood God's pet or something. It was something far more ominous than a little pet.
"Screeecchh!"
A large eagle… Or rather, an animal with its first half body being an eagle and the second half being a lion descended on its majestic wings. The brown color that Max saw earlier was eerily familiar with the said creature's feather.
Its beak held a branch, something that it probably bit when it tried to attack something or someone.
Looking a bit up, Max realized the branch he sat on earlier was partially destroyed like it was taken by something. He realized something. And this realization made him smile wryly. Because this time, the chat did the right thing.
That creature was probably the culprit behind that. And… That would've happened with his body if he didn't jump down earlier. He knew it because this creature was slightly famous. No, it was worldwide famous that even he knew its name.
"It's a freaking Griffon."
The embodiment of the king of the sky and land. The king of the kings!
No animals could come close to its majestic body and wings.
Upon seeing it, Max didn't hesitate to turn around and run.
"Are you kidding me? No one tells me there is a flying magical creature in this forest!"
— A Magical forest being a griffon area is a staple fantasy, no?
— Trolls exist. Its not strange that a Griffon exist too
— This is why youth these days, tsk tsk tsk. They never read pure fantasy anymore! Only different world stuff!
— Do you think you have the time to chat with us? Griffon is fast, you know?
"Screeech!"
Just as the chat warned him, the Griffon managed to catch up to him and blocked his way out.
Max had to stop on his tracks.
"Earth Weapon – Sword."
He immediately created an earth weapon. It wasn't for attacking but merely for protection. He felt more at ease with a weapon in his hand rather than not.
'Now this is a precocious situation. What should I do?'
Fight or flee.
Max's gamer's instinct told him to run, but he wasn't fast enough.
So, he chose the next best choice.
He didn't hesitate to grab the stalk of paralysis grass he got from the ground earlier and smeared it around the edge of his earth blade, carefully so he wouldn't get paralyzed.
Raising the fragile earth sword, he leaped forward at the Griffon.
— Oh! He's fighting! He uses the paralysis grass!
— Do it, Breeze. Kill that big guy!
— Show who's the King of Forest, Monkey Breeze!
— Griffon is nothing. Don't give it any mercy!
The chat encouraged him.
In the air, Max felt like he could do this. If he could inflict a small injury and transfer the poison inside the creature's body, he would get a few seconds, hopefully a minute, to run away.
His sword made an arch as he was close to the creature. It wasn't something that could be dodged. Not that the Griffon needed to dodge it.
Facing the majestic feather, the earth sword crumbled into dust. There was no chance to begin with.
'Tsk!'
Clicking his tongue, Max immediately swung his wand to hope that the poison, which was now in the Griffon's feather, would enter through a small wound.
"Wind Blade!"
"Screeech!"
At the same time Max activated the spell, and the wind blade flew out, the Griffon flapped its wings.
Many small wind blades were sent flying toward him with that casual clap. Max watched in horror as his spell was destroyed easily.
'Dodge!' He screamed in his mind, knowing what to do. But… no use.
"Fuck this game."
The blade cut his body apart. The pain only lasted a second before he blacked out.
[You have died.]
— oh
— No surprise. He's just unlucky
