Chapter 414 Pre-Match Negotiations
"Hey, brother, why is everyone so excited so early in the morning?"
"Oh, I guess you still don't know. Here's what happened…"
As the majestic sun slowly rose from its slumber, a festive atmosphere enveloped Balkrow City.
Yesterday, at around dusk, rumors started to circulate that a party of emerald-ranked adventurers from Krevar City stormed the doors of Raven's Blade Adventurer Guild in hopes of challenging the one who conquered the (A-) ranked Polva Mana Dungeon, Shye Crowley.
"Holy sh*t! So he would be fighting a bunch of emerald-ranked adventurers today?! Now that is something I want to see!"
Unfortunately, since the rumors started to circulate Balkrow City a bit too late, there were lots of people who just learned of what happened in front of Shye's guild the next morning.
Turns out, it was a great decision that he scheduled the "skirmish" at around 10 AM at the Balkrow Arena, giving ample time for the citizens to learn of such exciting news.
Unfortunately, there wasn't enough time to set up bets, however, as long as many attended to watch his battle against the Krevar City adventurers, Shye would be satisfied.
Moreover, he could set up individual bets and basically rob the seven idiots clean in broad daylight after defeating them.
…Meanwhile, the Krevar City adventurers were currently eating breakfast at a local restaurant, evidently in sour moods.
"Fight against all of us at once? What an arrogant twerp!"
"Heh, fine then, let's see how you fight against all of us at once!"
All the citizens knew was that Shye would fight Dodge and his group, but they were unaware that the battle format would be one versus seven.
Even Luna wanted Shye to reconsider the format of the match as she found it hard to believe that Shye would be able to defeat all of them alone despite losing to him badly.
"Dodge, how about we beat the bastard half to death in front of the Balkrow spectators? Hahaha!"
"I agree, such idiots need to be taught a lesson. What better way to teach him than humiliate him in front of tens of thousands?"
"Heh, I believe the guy is somewhat of a celebrity in Balkrow right now. Imagine what would happen to his reputation if we destroyed him."
All of them daydreamed of humiliating Shye in public, yet, hilariously, none of them were talking about plans on how they would defeat him, including Dodge.
None of the seven even thought of the other possibility as they didn't believe they would lose to a rookie like Shye despite learning of his recent achievements—a severe case of delusionalism.
Inevitably, father time ever so slightly crept forward, and the moment for the showdown finally arrived.
"H-Hey, look. Those seven are the adventurers from Krevar City."
"D-Damn. They look tough. Will Crowley be able to handle them?"
"My mind tells me that it would be impossible for him, however, looking back, all of his achievements had been nothing short of miraculous."
"Yeah…It's kinda hard for me to simply count Crowley out…"
Dodge and his party heard the hubbub of the mundane folks and the low-ranked adventurers.
Naturally, they were displeased.
These idiotic citizens think that there was a chance of them losing to some upstart rookie who was simply a bit more talented than others.
Delusional!
Just before entering the arena, Dodge and his party were drawn to the loud voice of a young woman.
"Boss! Over here!"
"Oh? Hahaha! Seira, you're always early for this kind of thing."
"Of course, if I arrive late, I might miss everything!
"You'll surely miss everything if you arrive late, midget. After all, this stupid boss of yours will get destroyed in the first ten seconds of the match."
Hearing Dodge's familiar voice, Shye's eyes narrowed into slits. A shadow of a smile then crept onto the corners of his mouth.
The bastards finally arrived.
"Heh, you talk too much for a loser. How about you put your money where your mouth is?"
The adventurers from Krevar simply couldn't stand Shye, especially when he's talking like he's some tough guy.
"Fine, fine. It seems that you still don't understand what is about to happen to you. I don't blame you, after all, you're nothing but an upstart who had been lucky throughout his entire journey." Dodge said with an obviously forced calm front. "What do you want to bet? Make sure that it's worth our time."
The Krevar party leader's words sounded like some sort of celestial melody to Shye's ears, bringing a wide smile of satisfaction to his face.
"Simple, good old money."
"Heh, and how much could an upstart like you even cough up?" Stay updated via empire
"Oh, not much, only 6,000 gold coins, what do you say? There's seven of you, no? Each of you only has to pay 857 gold coins each even if you guys lose! Not a bad deal, right?"
This time, it was Dodge who narrowed his eyes.
857 gold coins…not a huge sum of money for them but it wasn't small either.
"Fine, but that bet is too small for veterans like us. How about this: if we win, we get the dungeon clear rewards. You can keep the petty achievement for yourself, but the rewards go to us."
"Oh, not a bad deal, however, wouldn't I be at a disadvantage with such a bet? After all, I would only obtain 6,000 gold coins even if I won while you guys would obtain 6,000 gold coins plus the dungeon rewards."
At this point, more and more citizens gathered around them—excitement written all over their faces.
Witnessing how his tongue was as sharp as that of a veteran, Shye Crowley, their city's rookie representative, was becoming more and more likable in the citizen's eyes.
"Hmmph! It's not like you have a chance of defeating us, but to ensure the match proceeds and you don't bluff your way out, we'll give you 10,000 gold coins if you win. Sounds fair?"
"Hohoho! Brave! Adventurers from Krevar City are brave, don't you think, Seira?"
"Hahahahaha!! That's right, boss. Since they're so brave, let's raise the stakes: 7,000 gold coins plus the dungeon clear rewards from our side, and you guys put up 11,000 gold coins if you lose. I'm betting on my boss's victory!"
